Hey peeps.. I need a little help selecting a new monitor for my rig.. I'll be mainly using it for entertainment.. Watching movies and playing a few AAA games .. I haven't gotten my graphic card yet cause I'm waiting for Polaris and haswell. So I think I'll be getting something similar to a amd380 or a gtx 960..

So any thoughts on the two monitors above ? I have a budget or around rm900 . I'm looking for a sharp clear display . Any recommendations of other monitors or suggestions and comments on the two monitors above?

i assume Phillips 273V5LHAB has TFT panel and Dell U2414H has IPS panel.

IPS panel is better in terms of viewable angle and better colors. The Dell one has thin bezel, which I like in my personal opinion.

However I can recommend you getting Acer G247HYL for RM 6++ which has thin bezel and IPS panel as well.

i never bought any phillips monitor, so i can't say how much of a quality they are. and the ones on display with demo videos aren't that good of an indication since most of the videos are in crappy resolution

personally, i prefer the dell just because of its very trusted brand and also very good after service. for example, my previous dell monitor broke down and a call to dell for RMA resulted in a new monitor the very next day!

if i have to give an alternative, top up a bit and get an ultrawide. bought the LG 29UM57 for RM1040. as far as using it, i absolutely love it! wider work space so i can put more stuff side by side. watching movie is a blast since movies usually are in 21:9 ratio, so no top and black bars on a usual 1920x1080p monitors. however, viewing 1920 videos will result side bars instead, but that doesn't bother me much.

for games, playing on this monitor is also a blast because you have a wider field of view and you can see much more than usual. it uses only a bit more GPU power in my usage. a lot of latest games today support 21:9 resolution, so it's fine to use it. but some games don't, so you'll have to deal with black side bars or stretched out graphics

the lg is a little over my budget. Was trying to keep it under rm900 ... Will check out more dell monitors since they have such good after sales service. Thanks smile.gif
