Look, its very simple. You cannot make something that's both scratch-resistant and shatter-resistant, OK? Its gotta be one or the other. Why? Because glass can either be soft-ish and malleable which makes it shatter-resistant (a good example is the screen of the original Nexus S) but very very vulnerable to scratches.
Either that, it can be very hard and dense, which makes it scratch-resistant but therefore brittle and vulnerable to cracking.
Its one or the other. This means that your phone will either need a screen-protector or a impact-resistant case to protect it. You just gotta figure out which it is you need.
Also, scratch resistant means it your fingernails can't scratch it. Not keys, coins, or rocks. Don't keep the phone in your pocket with other sharp stuff or you're either a moron or just don't really care too much about the phone.
Oh, there is glass that is both shatter and scratch resistant. Its just not possible to fit onto a phone just yet, at least not at an affordable price.
