I bought my Macbook White used and loving it despite being 6 years old. Still very zippy compared to my Lenovo Flex2 with W10. Since then, I upgraded the RAM and hard drive to SSD. Now can fly.

Had multiple laptops + windows, upgraded to 16gb ram still runs slow. sigh |

if you have the money then just give a try...
you will not regret on buying it... but you will under utilise it when you bought... because limited "FREE" applications... i'm 'under-utilising' one MBP 13" but no regret.... |

If you don't play games at all, the MacBook Air is actually not bad.......so long as you don't need any Windows only softwares like most CAD softwares.

Sometimes Finder will hang. Only way is to Force Quit and wait few seconds. Same problem on Windows where Explorer.exe will crash or hang.

Only heard it from other people, but haven't really know it, so I can't really comment too much on it.MBP is quite expensive, would MBP 13" do the job? Also about the upgrades, do I need to go back to the authorized centers to make changes in the future? Thanks. AFAIK, you can't upgrade the hardware on all new models. Maybe you can, but it's not that simple. So if you want to buy one, try and get the best spec you can afford. Usually 8gb(or better 16gb) RAM with 256 SSD is good enough. |

Hi, I'm planning to buy a MBA / MBP.
I read somewhere that we cannot copy the files freely between the external HDD & MAC. The external HDD must be formatted to FAT32 in order to do that. Is it true? |

But for drive formatted with NTFS, no write permission (can't delete files, can't copy files from Mac into drive formatted with NTFS). Make sense cause NTFS is developed by Microsoft. You can still install third party drivers to enable the NTFS write.I read somewhere that we cannot copy the files freely between the external HDD & MAC. My budget is around 4.5k. I should look for used Mac 2015 or just get a new MacBook Air 2016? I just surf net, office 365 only. Mayb bootcamp if hard disk got space.
Will b my first MacBook . Currently think in between used set Mac book 2015 and the MacBook Air 13. As mba 13 support sdcard then I can save all my works there . But MacBook 2015 is retina and got force touch . Plan to use the notebook for at least 3 years. |

Hi guys, have been scouring for new laptop laptop lately, and neede an ultraportable with battery that last. At first i found some windows laptop but meh, if u need battery life they are very expensive, considering dell xps is 4,999. Ux305 is only core M for 10 hr life, cheap thou. Then i found out MBA dropped price due to exchange rate lately, and decided to look into it. But found out that there are a lot of reviews that say the MBa display is poor, is it true? I do some very lloght photo editing, mostly using for light gaming like maplestory or web browser game, and a lot of web surfing and word processing, will the screen do the job? Well currently im using some budget acer laptop with only hd display.
Also one quick question, can a mac connect to hp printers and mouse generally used on windows laptop? And i've read on apple website that 'pages' ( mac word app) can open and edit microsoft word documents, is this true? And thus can the post-edit doc be opened by windows laptop? I really have much to consider before buying it since my uni disteibute stuffs in windows form and i like the battery life of MBA 😂 |

About the display,i think HD is already enough considering the battery life u will get.Light photo edit maybe ok. No hassle/driver problem etc. On general mouses it will work fine, but dunno about gaming mouses with super extra sensitivity. On word processing, yes no problem. You can work with .docx / .doc files seamlessly with Pages. Plus, you can export your .pages docs into .docx/.doc too. Only one thing la, most external hdd is formatted into NTFS(windows only) and OS X can't write(or paste something) on it but can sure read. Instead you need to either format your ext hdd into fat32 or use a third party app to enable write to NTFS hdd(i use Paragon NTFS, much easier). Better if you partition your ext hdd into HFS+(for Time Machine backups) and another NTFS with use for c&p files and use 3rd party apps like Paragon. |

Possibly new MBA with new updates will definitely cost more for sure. The ultimate question is: does the 1440x900 resolution is still valid nowadays? I mean, windows laptop got at least 1920x1080 screen, why not MBA? should i just wait or buy MBA now? |

QUOTE(Zaryl @ May 19 2016, 04:20 PM) i am also somewhat eager to get MBA now but they say better wait till WWDC this coming 13-16 june 2016 where Apple is going to launch new Macbook lineups. It depends on your urgency, wait if possible.I need a laptop replacement in mid march, while i could wait for june wwdc but i just bought it right away because my 7yr old dell laptop was already dying you think MBA will get a Retina update coupled with Intel skylake plus Thunderbolt 3/USB C? Possibly new MBA with new updates will definitely cost more for sure. The ultimate question is: does the 1440x900 resolution is still valid nowadays? I mean, windows laptop got at least 1920x1080 screen, why not MBA? should i just wait or buy MBA now? imho i don't think mba will get retina display(maybe FHD only) but if Air lineup is maintained, the chip update is imminent, thunderbolt 3/usb c not sure.the cost might also just be the same as before. That display question, i also dunno. Unless you are a real movie fan, an active photo editor, the higher resolution might be needed(and opt for Macbook 12") overall macbook air is a bang for buck mainly battery life and portability(and i/o ports |

I think about the same also. As I plan to get my very first MacBook series this few months and hope it last me for 3 years. Currently I am shortlisted 2015 MacBook and new MacBook Air 13.3. you think MBA will get a Retina update coupled with Intel skylake plus Thunderbolt 3/USB C? But that 1 port design ..... Good about MacBook Air is cheaper , got sdcard. Got USB 3, but no retina and no force touch. By the way , all sifu , I try my office mbpro, when I move my mouse over to a words, it will display the definition , this need force touch unit only can do or actually MacBook Air also can ? This function important to me and is one of my key requirement when buy MacBook series . |

All depends on what you want out of the device.
ASUS and Acer itself has so many cheaper alternatives if you talk about lightweight and long battery life. They're A LOT cheaper and don't have to worry about single port. HOWEVER what's nice about Apple product is not the hardware part alone but the OS, Mac OS wins hands-down when it comes to "Ready to use" out of the box. It's very unlike Windows notebooks, whatever bundled stuff are pretty much useless and bloatware. Am I a Macbook user? No, I'm not. I have a Macbook but it's old now (Circa 2008), and even then it doesn't suit me. So now you (TS, or anyone else) just have to find out whether it suits you. |

QUOTE(ind3pend3nc3 @ May 19 2016, 03:21 PM) Hi guys, have been scouring for new laptop laptop lately, and neede an ultraportable with battery that last. The good advantage for MacBook over windows laptop is that u can run both Mac and windows no problem.

QUOTE(Ashroft98 @ May 19 2016, 04:09 PM) I have a mbpr 13" 2015. Idk about mba battery life but from my friends' exp they said it lasted very long. About the display,i think HD is already enough considering the battery life u will get.Light photo edit maybe ok. Well thanks. The hdd part is quite techy, but I rarely use hdd, even till now I'm only using 70gb on my windows laptop as I don't have any big programs and files, will look into it if needed.About apple electronics connecting with non-apple devices, it works fine. my mbps works perfectly with my 2009 pixma canon printer. The macbook can last so long and working like when you first bought it so I won't worry about the price. My friend's ultrabook has already shows of lag and heat builds up after a year. So if the average Windows laptop can only runs like new in the first year wherelse Macs can runs like new as long as it works, the cost of a Mac is substantially lower.

MacBook is God. I got rid of my W10 PCs and laptops after upgrading to Mac Mini and MacBook. All bought used. Even used also much faster than W10 with similar specs.

QUOTE(lowcincai @ Jul 8 2016, 04:53 PM) Not much. My MacBook is the 2010 white one. Bought it used at RM 1.3K but previous owner upgraded to 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM. Good enough to run El Capitan for months. I've not reboot / shutdown for 3 months now. Previous had to reboot after updating some patches. |
