There is a recording thread here, but i am more concerned about live usage of these things. I am aware of software loopers and sequencers, but not so hot on the idea of bringing a laptop on stage. I decided to start experimenting with these gadgets after I decided to quit looking for a drummer. Decent drummers are hard to come by here *sigh*. So basically the plan is to make drum loops and synth bass loops or even ambience pads and background sound. I also need to be able to switch between loops accurately (preferably with foot switch). I was just wondering if any of you guys out there have experiences with loopers and sequencers. And also MIDI modules with nice strings and ambient patches. I have only heard of the DigiTech JamMan, but that is rather limited. I need to be able to store more tracks than just 2. This post has been edited by Bassix: Jan 14 2007, 07:33 PM

The Boss has its own looper, couldn't remember the model, but try googling it. Quite a decent looper I heard. The Line 6 Delay Modeller DL-4 & the Akai Headrush both have a built-in looper, which are much favoured by guitarist. Though, the number of loops and the length of each loop are rather limited but if you're not demanding, you should check them out.

Checked out the Line 6 as well, but it's too limited. It's more of some FX thingy. Anyone heard of Looperlative LP1? Is it even available in malaysia?

hiring people means extra $$$. If i were in msia it's ok, but here in germany you're looking at about at least 40 EUR an hour, which is about RM 200. A couple of gigs like that and i would've spent enough money to buy my own sequencers anyway

the cheaper alternatives to RC50 would be: RC 2 RC 20 or 20 XL

I've tried the RC 20XL already. And the thing that bothers me about it is that the "phrase select" is a knob and i have to bend down halfway through the song to change phrase. Which i haven't mastered yet

Which i haven't mastered yet I've seen the RC20XL in a live show before. Poor fella's a bassist and bandmates couldn't make it that night so, he used that thing to cover them. I'm impressed with the unit but I'm sure it would take some time to fully master it.

so that's what those things are called. Pad triggers. I was wondering what they were called. Whenever i enter music shops, those guys don't know what i want Can these things be used to trigger other playbacks as well other than just as a drum pad kind of thing? Are they synchronised via a central wordclock? So in other words, as a universal synchronised controller. Or can it only do MIDI? This post has been edited by Bassix: Jan 14 2007, 07:34 PM

dont know what u mean by universal synchronised controller. not sure if theyre 100% called pad triggers(but thats what we call the buttons). of course they can trigger other things too other than drums. take for example linkin park's 'in the end' intro that was done using a m audio finger trigger. mr hahn has 2 units in his rig(not to mention a gt6(yes, the guitar multi efx) for his effects

ermm, universal as in, like a playback switch. Like a looper only it doesn't loop. I record an audio track and let's say i assign pad 1 to this track. Then i record another one and assign it to pad 2. I've seen people do it before, but i'm not sure if the recorded tracks are in the trigger unit itself or if the unit is just a controller for where i store my tracks. And in the 2nd case, where do i store my tracks then?
And synchronised as in, assuming i don't hit the buttons exactly on the beat, the processor recognises that a signal has been sent but waits for the next beat/click until it starts the playback. Maybe a wordclock input or something like that. Like those drum machines with the fill buttons, you can press them at any time, but the processor will only start the fill in on the next beat/bar.

thanks echo for the tip. Real interesting gadget there. But i couldn't find the kelly clarkson clip. All i saw was the crystal method, 2 sound techs talking about some new m-audio stuff and a demo of how the trigger finger is used for drums. Guess i have to try it out.

whether Mr Hahn changed or not im not sure... but all my video clips i have of them playing including rock am ring and also the dvd (live in texas), u can clearly see m audio finger trigger being used for alot of their songs. btw, i love the 'touch screen' function the one korg has where u can do things like drum rolls by just sliding ur fingers on the screen. looks like the mouse touchpad on a laptop edit: i'll try find the video for u. im supposed to be doing my assignments now not posting in LYN. hehehe This post has been edited by echobrainproject: Jan 15 2007, 11:37 AM
