1. I plan to backup photo for my trip.

2. I will be using:
a) Sony RX100 III
b) Sony action cam FDR X1000V

3. The video duration that can be shot in 4K using sony action cam is about 1H30minutes. (for 64gb 4K capable SDXC card)

4. I read the review the transfer rate for 64gb memory is about 1H plus using WD passport wireless. shocking.gif

5. So, I'm wondering is there any better options?

6. Buying cheap tablet seems an alternative choice.
By that, I can be really sure that I really backup the photos/videos vs blindly transfer using WD passport wireless.

7. Any other thought? hmm.gif

1. Tablet for directly transfer the photos/videos via USB. (and its windows UI, that's really easy)
The only downside is the cheap tablet usually come with small storage.

2. Phone (I'm using Iphone btw)
Cons:
- Limitation of the space
- Limitation of the supported format
- It's iPhone

Cheap tablet that can store multiple 64Gb file and accept wired usb transfer from cam? Well, surface pro seem to fit the bill but i wont call it cheap and storage still limited.

Alternatively just get another sd card or an ultra thin laptop.

what i did for backup before was using my asus t100 with 500gb dock, simply cos my camera didnt possess capability to wifi transfer.
so yea if i had a newer camera with wifi I would definitely use my phone next time.

I wont exactly recommend transfer with wifi regardless cause it will kill the battery faster and can disconnect in between transfer. Wifi mainly use if want to upload jpeg quick to social media. Transfer direct from sd still faster and secure.

there is no proper or best way to have a backup on the go that comes cheap.

the best option i will offer is, grab a usb3.0 hdd+ card reader. when traveling, some hotel /homestay has PC/laptop for usages or pop into nearby cybercafe to copy them out. (another crazy option is to find a android TV box with 2 usb, you can hook up to the hotel TV and copy them usb to usb)

tablet, im not sure you are talking about window tablet(surface) or ipad/samsung android tablets which usually comes with 64gb. window tablet are using SSD, and normally largest is 512gb ssd which cost from wooping 6k to 9k..... or even with a 240gb storage, you will fill it up with (64gb store 1.5h 4k) 5.5hrs of 4k video. (or budget tablet of 3k with 128gb?)

which all the costing, u might end up buying 5x 64gb microsd cards?

Another option TS is to get something like a Media Hub like Kingston Mobilelite. You can then plug in your HDD and transfer it from your SD Card. All can be control via tablet or phone.

i think the best way is to carry a large external harddisk + card reader.

most hotels (even homestay) around the world has a public pc for you to use at the lobby. use that to transfer from your memory cards to your external. it's more cost saving.

Transfer / backup to solid state storage (SSD, SD card, etc). Avoid backing up to external HD (mechanical). The reason is, if you drop it, high potential data lost due to mechanical nature of HD.

Solid state is more robust.

As for me, I have a couple cheap 64Gb MicroSD card. Good enough for 3-4 weeks travel.
