In February, when I was relooking at my iValue plan, I realized almost every other telco is giving a better deal (more data) with lower price (half of what I was paying), so I decided to switch.

Subsequently I got a call offering me a choice of either Maxis 158 at RM90 discount per month or Maxis 188 at RM100 discount a month. I have chosen the former, hence effectively paying RM68 for 5GB+Unlimited Call/SMS+Spotify, basically all benefit of Maxis158 at a heavily discounted price. Other telco still offer more data, but since Maxis shown some sincerity in retaining customers, I have decided to stay on.

All these was before the issues being blown out on social media.

Now they have upgraded their plan substantially ... but at the same time they downgraded my plan from Maxis158 to Maxis98. Well, still 5GB+Unlimited Call/SMS+RM30 discount to make it RM68 a month, but they have also yanked away the Spotify benefit from me.

When I made a call to the call center, after much waiting a and complains, finally a manager spoke to me. She insist that I am getting the 5GB data offered to me (she side stepped the fact that I was offered Maxis158 after a big discount), and the only thing she can do is just to make special offer of free Spotify for two more months to me.

All this switching was done without informing me, or discussing with me.

I can understand that may be they feel the need to level the playing field for everyone, but doing this without communication is so terrible. And on top of that they took away two things unilaterally:

1) Free Spotify

2) The good deal factor

I am totally disappointed with them. The differential treatment continues, only this round they start targeting those who were retained before by their good offer.

Wel, I guess the past two months was too good to be true from Maxis. I am going over to Celcom now. They may not have best line, best coverage and in fact not very good customer service, but at least they don't do such bait and switch.

P.S. I am not even sure what Maxis doing is legal. Anyone can advise me on that?

I believe what they're doing is legal (read their fine print in T&C when you sign up for their plans), but the real question is should they be using their powers to carry out this change? you be the judge.

For whatever it is worth, I lodged a complain to MCMC.
