There's many advantages (than disadvantages) to Mac. I'm so lazy to tell you everything because you can surf http://www.apple.com/getamac/

One of them is security - from viruses, malwares, spywares bla bla..

why MAC?

u gotta try everything if it is possible.. MAC is good, not as bad as windows (some say even better, i would say so too).. but i know both got good and bad!

diff experiences comes with diff price.. prices isnt matter (i.e. which is more expensive), it the things u get, the experiences u earned and etc does matter..

wat special? u try it out and u can feel the speciality, else can explain much..

what's bad about a mac? smile.gif

i just power on the thing right out of the box - all is there!!! biggrin.gif all i need to do is software update, that's it.

the start-up / shut-down speed alone is way faster than Windows. virus? malware? Mac is not without Virus........but it's rare, really really really really rare.

if your purpose is just for e-mail, browsing, listen to music, enjoying photos you taken - then IMO Mac it is!!

?? contradicting in what way ??

btw when you say something is "not as bad as" you're saying that item is BAD as well, just NOT AS BAD.

or perhaps did you mean it's better than Windows?

my friends and i always say this, "once you go mac, you'll never go back to windows"...having a mac is not only style, but the durability of the OS system is juz so good, that u can juz not pay so much attention to viruses infecting ur system as windows always have that problem..

hehe. ok np. i tend to be picky a little when words do not reflect fact as close as possible. so sorry. thumbup.gif

the thing about a Mac is that you'll be surprised how nice the interface are despite just using Intel GMA 950.

i had tested out a Sony VAIO the other day (that model is about RM 6k - 7k range) and i still find the macbook's screen look so much nicer.

I was quite amazed how OSX manage to use my so called "useless-crappy-slow-old" x300se when I installed this screensavers http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/390582
How I can use X300se ?? Don't ask me brows.gif

If want to compare the interface between Windows and OSX, IMHO OSX will pwn Windows anytime even the Vista. Windows looks very complicated while OSX is simple tongue.gif Is hard to describe la tongue.gif See to believe tongue.gif

How OSX manage the ram is shocking.gif My background is running lots lots lots of browser tab + msn + x-chat(mirc) the usage of ram is less than 256MB shocking.gif Try this on Windows XP doh.gif I think it going to consume near to 512MB of the ram doh.gif

I just realize I am typing poison doh.gif New user but started to poison people doh.gif

I wonder where he got his Powerbook from... that's why there's myMUG.org (malaysia mac user group). Guess if he only joined, he might have gotten better advice on how to deal with things.

Owning a G4 Powerbook myself, my repairs were all done locally. My machine was never sent to Singapore instead VR Tech would order the part and have them sent it over, and this would take a couple of days to a week. I wonder where the poor fella bought his Mac from and who he sent it to for repairs.

Not buying Apple Care Plan. That's another mistake he did.

he probably doesn't realize that normal notebooks cost equally (and sometimes more) BUT comes with Windowx and practically nothing else. smile.gif no remote control, if there's any it's usually not cheap. smile.gif heck coming with Windows isn't cheap already.

hehe. it's not like Windows XP Pro is any better than Home other than some additional features. smile.gif

initially i also though Mac OS X is just.....well........THAT. as in that's all, the OS with the device. settle.

but until i got my own Mac - i just (being a techie in nature) explore as much as i can and i was surprised at all the applications already installed. biggrin.gif

I've been using Windows since Win 3.11 sweat.gif and Dos 6.2 at that time. And now OSX and wont be looking back. Its the best ever!

Well back to the question, bought my Macbook at RM5,299.00, no regrets. I agree its not cheap, but neither is it expensive. You dont very often get such an awesome package of Hardware and Software at this price. It's just BEAUTIFUL rclxm9.gif

I bought my MBP C2D last week in Bangkok after spend a lot of my time peeping this machine in KL. They gave me free wireless apple mouse which cost more than Rm 200 in KL. The Credit card statement only shown RM 9,4000.00. Than mean cheaper than KL plus I entitle to get a refund for 7% VAT when I fly back to KL.

Just like a dream come true owning this supeb machine..

my machine is 15" C2D 2.33 Ghz.. with ATI 256 MB.. whistling.gif

My opinion, not worth buying the Blackbook. The extra could go to valuable RAM upgrades. AND that in my opinion Apple should be in white.. Hehe..

Yes, there are people who will pay cash for their machines; unless of course cannot afford and can get instalment plan then why not take the instalment plan? tongue.gif

hm, this is what i worry, i don't have a cc now only debit card, i'm thinking what preparation i need to do doing instalment plan?

is the idea like, the cc company pay upfront the fullamount on behalf of me to the mac company and then throughout a 12 month, i pay back monthly to the cc company?

if so , i've seen you guys saying standard char cc is better than other since the % is lower? any recommendation?

but normally we cannot tweak how long we want to pay right? let's say instead of 12 month, i want to change to 6 month yawn.gif

siaukia,
Check with the merchant the available instalment plans available. Some may have 6 months plan and some 12 months and even up to 24 months. But do take caution of the processing fees involved.

Thus far, it seems that most CCs with instalment plans are charging a processing fee of 4%, but Stan Chart's processing fees are 2%, hence making that the most viable CC to use when purchasing a Mac biggrin.gif

Almost all installment plans are prepared by CC issuing banks, I dont think merchants do them anymore, where the amount would be apportioned to the number of months of the installment plan and charged to your CC account monthy. Well Maybank CC have interest free installments, provided you have credit for the whole amount.

Siaokia, just try to apply for one, like what I am doing right now. And wait for and see what happen next...i learn it is better than discussing here without taking some actions....Anyway, the intention of getting a mac is good, I dun think I will ever regret doing it.

i bought a refurbished black macbook for USD999+ taxes (came to abt RM3900) from the store.apple.com

i figured, being a first time mac user i dont need to get the latest/greatest. plus i did my research online and reports say that the core 2 duo chips only ran 10% faster than the core duo.

listed as core duo 2.0ghz 80gb hdd and 512mb ram. comes with 1 yr warranty
but when i got it, it came with 1gb of ram smile.gif

so i lucked out. apple decided to give me an xmas present (got the macbook on 26th dec)

oh and it looked brand new...

Congratulations! Good buy! Check the production week and see if its among those affected by the infamous Random Shutdown Syndrome.

Haha.. Not scaring you ler.. Just to be safe..

Production week is the 3rd and 4th number of the serial number. Then browse apple's discussions or search the web, there are ppl documenting all the affected ones..

i use Mac because it suites me for my graphic design work...

i have an iMac G5 and i bought it somehow about a year ago at RM5000plus...still have it and works brilliant... none major, minor or even problems ever happened....
