Thats quite a kampung place but they have quite a few shopping complex like Aeon and V-City which is quite new. Not too bad. If you dont mind smaller houses I think you can also find HKD5000 over there. I have worked in HK city for about two year. And food is much much more expensive in the main city.

I see... 5k sounds acceptable.

Just wondering, when you worked for 2 years in Hong Kong, do you have to pay MPF ?

And their income tax is higher than Malaysia or lower? From what I gather from internet, seems to be lower

Be prepare to stay in a flat that is about 350sqft where you open the door and you can see your bed, kitchen and bathroom.

I did not pay to MPF as at that time I was on expat package and also all taxes are paid for by my company. My understanding is the the maximum tax you pay was 15%. Its definitely lower than Malaysia which I think was 25%.

I see... I choose HK not because of place, mainly because there is an opening for a suitable position.

But true one of my main concern would be the cost of living, and about how much I need to ask for to ensure I won't end up getting paid lesser than what I am currently having.

If not change job lagi tolak gaji, rugi lah hehe
*
Question is how you calculate "getting paid lesser"? It depends what you want in the job. If its for experience, then I think getting less is acceptable. If you want to maintain your current lifestyle, then its another different story. What you can do is, list down what you currently do like, afternoon tea in Hyatt every weekend, spa every month, etc. Then you find equivalent cost in HKD. Factor in rental and also how much you want to save then that would be the salary that YOU think you should have. So it depends very much on what you want. As you are moving to a new country and not buying kankung in a market, you really need to do all this research. It took me 6 months of research and negotiation before I took the plunge to go overseas.

If pay less than 30k HKD, better stay in Malaysia. If >30k HKD can stay. FYI a common seven friday watch is selling 9.4k HKD there. Fried rice 25HKD

THat also if you are staying alone in a cheap place. If you have children and rent a better place, you need to at least double that.

Among all asia countries i've been to. Hong Kong is the best international country for "single" men. cool2.gif  cool2.gif  cool2.gif  Although Singapore consider as international country as well but the girls mindset there aren't that "International" yet
*
Hmm.....dont really think so. Working in Japan now, I think Japan is best for single men. Here girls are trying to change to a international mindset.

You can read Chinese or not?

If you cannot, then going to order makan very susah liao.

Hong Kee people have no patience one.

This is so very true. especially in "Tai pai tong". I always need my wife to patiently explain to me what is on the menu and also the set menu that is available.

living expenses in hk quite high...

Its not quite high.....its one of the highest in the world. Hence you need to earn HKD to live in HKD and not MYR.

hello,

hongkong is good for experience but not for long term... if you plan to go there 2-3 years to get something interesting on your resume then go for it.

i worked in hk for 3 years - exited june 2015 ... average expenses (per month) -

rent = 12,000 (cwb area)
food = i budgeted 100 per meal x 3 meals x 30 days = 9,000
mobile / internet / utilities = 500
octopus card top up = 500

hope this helps.

That is just if you are single! Planning to move my whole family there.........education for my children will cost a bomb!

Average child education is HKD10k per month pls take note.
Average 3 bedroom unit is HKD25-35K per month
Average train ride cost HKD 30-40 a day
Average price per meal HKD80-100

My relative husband earns HKD 1 mill per annum and he feels better of when he was in Australia earning AUD4000/mth

And yes, they look down on us
*
That's about right. Education is really expensive and they start from 3 years old. British Council Pre school for kids 3yrs -6 yrs cost about 72,000HKD/year.

I do have a property in HK currently but a bit far of from city center. As I am looking at a few schools in HK, I might just sell it off and get one nearer to their school.
