Yeah. However, you need to remember that the units Machines sold were old stock (2016 model). Perhaps Apple has a some form of safety/warranty tamper system that does this to older products when registered.
When my laptop arrived it was wrapped exactly like my previous 15” rMBP when I got it new. Even has the foam/paper piece between the screen/keyboard and the signature new MacBook smell. Also, my battery charge count was 0 when I got it.
Besides, there’s no harm in getting a return/refurb unit. I got one for RM 4000 only, and that’s for the 512 GB m5 model! 40% savings right there! Better deal than some windows ultraportables
If anything does go wrong, I have the same warranty to fix it. I can even get AppleCare to extend the warranty even further if the laptop does prove to be problematic
