Guys, I just can't stand Mate 8 poor camera auto focus, sometimes I need to take picture of important details in close range, but couldn't due to the bad auto focus, I tried downloading many camera apps, but it doesn't fix it either, any solutions? sad.gif

I am starting to feel this as well. I dont even need close up shots, just normal photos alao struggle cuz it takes abt 1 sec to focus when i hit the shutter button. Sometimea before take photo seems gpod, once taken, and view the photo again, looks blurry

Got frustrated few years  ago buying a Samsung... Best looking most expensive at that time, you know what always searching for signal ie poor reception.  Can't beat the MATE 8 unbelievable signal even in the attic of the house.

HTC worse bought the One also most expensive and beautiful phone.... you know what, the camera got purple tint. How can they sell a flagship phone with defective parts. Both Samsung and HTC sold after one month.... never bought again.

I guess we all have our preference. Sad to say, samsung does have reception issues. I had issues after note 4 onwards. Note 3 era all good.

Used 1 htc, enough adi. Not a fan.

Normal shot still bearable, just need some skills, but close up and zoom, no matter how good you take picture, you can't zoom in clear, always blurry.
*
even normal shots not so bearable to me. cant compare to my ex phone. really cant compare. sad.gif

Same, I kind of regret a bit for switching due to downgrading almost everything compared to the Note 5, but the battery life and screen size is an up for me tho
*
Haha well m8 is not bad really. The battery really kicks ass. I thought the rest wont be far off but i was wrong.

Only the batt is better, the rest note 5 is more superior.

Oh well, thats what i need now since i surf alot while working laugh.gif

It's not a problem of the autofocus, it's a limitation of the lens that cannot focus obiects that are closer than a certain distance (approx 7-8 cm). There are DRLS lens that cost more than the Mate 8 that have the same limitation. If taking close up macros is a must, than there are other cellphones the allow you to get closer to the subject.
More in general, I read in the past a number of complains about the Mate 8 camera and because of these I've waited more than 2 months before deciding to buy one. I have 2 Canon DSRL, a Sony RX100 and a few compact cameras (Canon, Panasonic, Kodak) so it's obvious that quality of the camera for me is one of the most important features in a smartphone. After getting the Mate 8 I must say that I was surprised by the general good quality of the pictures I could snap. After about 6 weeks I would rate the camera with a score around 7/8 (out of 10).
Here are some unedited pictures I took, you can judge by yourself:
https://flic.kr/s/aHskyvuYxs
https://www.flickr.com/gp/48761054@N03/Y77681
There are better camera phones out there (Huawei P9, Samsung S6 and S7, LG G4, G5 and V10, iPhone 6 and 6S to mention a few) but they are not without faults and often the quality of the pics taken with the Mate is VERY close to them.
Mate 8 has a good general purpose camera, the focus is reliable, the lens is good (I cannot see a significant image degradation at the corners of the image), it has an effective optical image stabilisation, the exposure is good, the colours are natural and even in low ligth and high ISO the pictures are comparable (if not better) to the ones taken with a Canon or Panasonic compact camera.
Limitations of the camera?
- HDR mode is not particularly effective (could be fixed with a sw update)
- not the ideal camera for macros
- some noise is visible even at low ISO in areas of homogeneous colour, in particular the blue of the sky. This is a choice by Huawei in order to preserve the details of the image. The noise can ne easily removed with very little degradation of the image by post processing with sw like DeNoise or Noiseless (for OSX).
- sometimes the white balance (particularly with a cloudy weather or in the shade) is not spot on
- cannot easily freeze fast moving subjects. For that you need a DRLS or maybe you can get more successful shots with the Samsung S7 camera with its new Dual Pixels technology

No doubt u are knowledgeable in photogtaphy, but as a basic user, i will just look at point and shoot capabilities.

The mate 8 is slow as compared to my ex note 5, sometimes when i press the shutter, it will refocus again before taking despite focused earlier. This is a major flaw for me. It makes me miss the moment.

Also, photos shown on the screen are always a little blurry (maybe because note 5 has 2k screen and mate 8 has 1k)

Love shaped blister lol

Auto mode on the m8. Required some focus spamming to get it right.

Battery usage gets better with each firmware update especially on standby. These days battery drain overnight hardly exceed 2% over 7-8 hours. Doze is getting better. My phone all my wakelocks minimum and well controlled. Even on ex Mate7 I get similar SOT except on standby battery drain is higher
*
U mean the mate 8? B321 seems abit lousier than 320. But too soon to say. Baru try 1 day. My batt not as lasting as b320

Revert lor. B320 was better for me. I notice the diff even only after a days usage..

My batt nv goes below 20% before charging to sleep, on b321 it did.
