Can put the name shop here?

By the way, circuit breaker didn't shut off when it is on fire?
Before the incident, did you hear spark sound from the aircon or any sound?

This was the second time in 3 years time, so total two air conditioners. Not Panasonic problem, just the installer.
The Panasonic technician said the connectors that the installer used cause short circuit and melt, eventually will burn the unit. The connectors and wire were hidden behind the indoor unit, it burned the back cover of the indoor unit when the wire short circuit.

KUALA LUMPUR: The home of Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was damaged in a fire believed to have been caused by a faulty air conditioning unit.

“I was fast asleep when my 15-year-old son (Tengku Muhammad Hafis) woke me up, complaining that the air-conditioning unit in his room was burning. I rushed to his room on the fourth floor to inspect,” said Tengku Adnan.

not just china made wires.
got fake wires.
got cheap wires.
got refurbished wires.

yup.
the copper becomes brittle after a while and breaks inside the sleeving causing the still connected copper to carry more current than intended and become hot and melt the plastic sleeving.

installer bundling too many wires inside a single pvc pipe also doesn't help.

This is actually a very serious case.
Its just fortunate that you're at home when the incident happen. Worst case scenario, your entire house would've been burned down. Would you simply ask the shop to replace the AC unit? Make a tribunal case against these notorious shops. Otherwise, they will continue this practice at other houses. Who knows how many more houses with AC they've installed with those low grade wires.

I understand that there are different grades of wire produced in China and normally those wiring contractors will buy the cheapest grade which is not very safe.

As for the wiring for the air-con, our air-con service contractor did told us the same thing too (I asked him for confirmation and his opinion about this).

When I bought a new house and need to do extra wiring for the lighting, I specifically told that contractor that I don't want China made wire.

I caution my wife's uncle about this and upon checking he found that some of the wiring done to his house by the developer. He get the TNB people to do some inspection and the developer was told to change the wiring by TNB. Luckily, its not those encased in the wall and only a small part of it.

Its not difficult to notice the differences between those wires. Those low quality types are usually small in diameter then those normal types. Smaller in diameter in terms of the number of strands of the copper wires, the plastic casing/sleeves i.e. white, black, blue brown etc is also thinner.

Check harak_84 posting #3. Just keep yourselves informed about this and me extra careful.
