KUALA LUMPUR: There is no getting away for errant policemen as the public can now easily report them on Facebook.
Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) is ready to accept reports against its personnel via the popular social media platform. Since its formation on July 25, 2014, a total of 46 reports have been filed via its Facebook page “Jabatan Integriti dan Pematuhan Standard PDRM”. Most of them were complaints about policemen who gambled or got involved in social vices. They would usually give information about the venue and even provide photographs as evidence. JIPS director Comm Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said this was part of the department’s efforts to reach out to the public and strengthen the integrity of the men and women in blue. In view of the millions of Facebook users in Malaysia, he said the JIPS wanted to encourage people to share information of any wrongdoing or misconduct of police personnel. “We have been doing this since the department was set up almost two years ago. “We have seen a lot of things going viral on Facebook, so instead of voicing their complaints or whatever information they have, they can come straight to us so we can act on it. “Many people are unaware that they can lodge a report against our personnel on Facebook but I believe the trend will change. “We are ready to receive these complaints,” he said in an interview. However, Comm Jalaluddin said many Malaysians still preferred to convey their complaints by writing letters, adding that 4,275 were received since 2014. “We have 18 channels for the public to choose from but based on our statistics, the majority of complainants prefer to lodge reports via letters. “The problem is that most complainants would give very vague information and do not leave their contact details,” he said. Comm Jalaluddin said that the second most popular method was through police reports. “To date, we have received 1,646 reports via police reports while 1,554 were done through Rakancop and 945 filed at the JIPS complaints management branch,” he said. Other ways for the public to lodge a report include over-the-counter, by telephone, e-mail or fax, or through the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam). QUOTE(jimhorn @ Nov 30 2020, 12:04 PM) No idea. There was once news/rumour that NSK if taking up that space. Then heard that IOI gonna build a condo over there as well. I think that's not gonna happen since they already have plan to setup shop in One City. They even did the renovations and plan to open on last quarter this year. Since then, no news. Plan scrapped? But then it died down when MCO started and then now don't know what's going on there anymore. |
