For anyone out there who has just upgraded and dont want to lay LAN cable the ONLY wireless card u should get is the tplink T8E or the T9E. Those are the only 2 cards that work with speeds as claimed. Dont even bother with usb card no matter what they say it is just junk.
My T8E is around 8 meters seperated with 4 walls and i can max out my 500mbps wif 5ghz wifi. Same as LAN cable.
I have changed at least 6 usb AC adapters they are all junk. Learn from my mistake. They are cheap for a reason.

QUOTE(ralyon @ Oct 1 2018, 10:19 PM) Have you tried TPLINK Archer T9UH? I'm thinking to get one. A usb stick with no antenna? Go figure. Like i said usb sticks are rubbish however you are free to try and report it back. If u dont want to pull cat 6/7 cable T8E or T9E is the way to go.

QUOTE(HMMaster @ Oct 1 2018, 10:59 PM) Which router you are using? Was using tplink touch p5 ac1900 when 500mbps first came out. Now upgraded to asus rt-ac 5300. I have done my homework. Just please dont waste your money on usb sticks.

QUOTE(Andy72 @ Oct 2 2018, 09:52 AM) Hi. What are the downlink speeds you get from speedtest.net using 5GHz-2 band on your RT-AC5300? For me speedtest always gives around 750Mbps but iperf can get 950Mbps. Cannot fully utilise 1Gbps on wireless. My max 500mbps. Even my touch p5 1900 can reach max 500mbps on 5ghz. The main problem is the receiver. Cheapskate usb receiver can only get 2xx mbps on 5ghz. Once i uograde to T9E 500mbps all the way man like LAN cable. Now waiting TIME to upgrade my 500mbps to 1gbps so i can test it out. The 5300 is overkill for normal ppl but i need it to stream my HEVC 4k movies (80gb avg) through plex to multiple family members.

QUOTE(Andy72 @ Oct 2 2018, 11:07 AM) Pls share your speedtest after you're upgraded to 1Gbps. I'm wndering if it is just me who cannot get higher speed on the 5GHz-2 band. Thanks What router u using? If u get around 800mbps is good enough. If u use purely for DL, not much server around the world support full 1gbps download. You alone can saturate the whole bandwidth of the server, and imagine there are 100 of the likes of u around tge world. Feasible 300-450 mbps dl is good enough la for dl movie from server. Unless u torrent la. I dunno liaw.

QUOTE(Andy72 @ Oct 2 2018, 11:48 AM) I'm using RT-AC88U media bridged to a RT-AC5300 which is my main router. Maximum downlink speed using speedtest is 750Mbps. But using iperf can get 950Mbps. Same link. Uplink I can get more than 900Mbps using file transfer. Iperf can always get higher cox not much overhead. Real life speedtest lower will be lower. When i stayed in KLCC i always get full speed on speedtest regardless time of the day. Once move to residential, sometimes wont get full speed also. Maybe ur area everyone upgraded deswai bandwidth in ur area all saturated. My area this morning they are quickly laying new fibre cables to address the speed bust ( mont kiara)

QUOTE(Andy72 @ Oct 2 2018, 11:58 AM) Direct LAN connection to my RT-AC5300 I can get 998Mbps. So it is not the WAN issue. It is the wireless issue. Maybe will wait for the new AX routers which will be available in a few months. I see. Direct to rtac5300 or rtu88?

As of 2017 there is no equipment that has connectors supporting the Class FA (Category 7A) channel. Cat7 shoeld be black or blue. Not shitty grey cable like that. At least i have never seen a grey cat 7 cable b4.

QUOTE(FusionXY @ Oct 7 2018, 01:30 AM) Do test out 5G for me. Test the maximum you can get. BTW, I'm an existing user of 100Mbps plan. Got upgraded to 500Mbps. Don't think LAN port can support 2Gbps. Can get full 5GHz signal in the room with AC5300? Thanks. Chwck my previous post. Yes 5ghz and 2.4ghz i can max out my 500mbps via wifi with 4 walls 8 meters away. Ppl who cannot max out their wifi is because they use shitty USB sticks. Im using tplink t9e card the speed just like LAN cable.
