Guys,

I called in to digi earlier to check why I was charged 5 times SMS to UK RM0.50 each.

Customer service agent reason is that IF I am using iphone and each facetime / imessage will be charge.

This would be ridiculous if its true. Already lodged a report to check on this.

Anyone facing the same problem?

other telco like maxis and celcom don't charge if we activate facetime by using our handphone number. only digi charges it as international sms. this one i find it quite ridiculous. some people don't want to use email as facetime ID, due to privacy concern.

QUOTE(UntilUComeBack @ Sep 28 2016, 10:40 AM)
yes. umobile / celcom never charge me for facetime.
da heck digi charge pula.
so i dunno. now jus off that stupid imessage.
not gonna use email.

Their second level of customer service agent called me up today too. They agreed to waive for this time ON GOODWILL BASIS. Wtf?! As if we beg for waive now. The problem is each time you switch sim card (good luck to those travelling alot) / remove your sim to active your imsg / any usage of imsg or facetime - YOU WILL BE CHARGE RM0.50 each time.

His reason gave me is I have to suck it up. If dont like can complain to SKMM or CFM. Which mean no solution from them. Dafuq

HAHAHAHA

I was a subscriber for the DIGI mobile broadband 185. originally comes with 30/70gb on/off peak quota.

when i first noticed that they had upgraded the on peak quota to 40gb on their website, I called the Digi Helpline number and asked nicely if I am to receive the additional quota as well. But they told me that I need to TERMINATE my line and RESUBSCRIBE for the plan because the offer is only for NEW subscriber.

I was quite angry because they pulled off the Maxis move of giving new customers better offer, so I terminated my line which costs me almost RM300, but I did not resubscribe back.

N now some existing 185 plan subscribers r telling me that they actually do get extra 10gb bump for the on peak quota.

Fuck me right?

In fairness, the telcos are not responsible.  If your phone sends an international sms, the telco has the right to charge you for it.

If anything, you should complain to Apple who designed iMessage to work in this way.

Other messaging services like WhatsApp, Telegram never incur charges - their robot even call you for free with the password to setup on a new device.
*
Digi has the right to charge every iphone user, however, when all other telcos is not charging on this and you are. What make digi so special to charge that? Moreover, everyone already assume that telco will absorb the charges.

On another issue is they should inform customer about these charges beforehand not until customer discover the charges. Meaning that, alot customers are unaware of these charges.

to be fair , digi did warn me about the sms charge for facetime activation when i signed up for their iphone plan.maybw digi don't have agreement with  UK telco to waive the charge, hence they pass the cost to customer?
*
For me, I ported in from other telco. At first was feeling weird how come they registered me by using my old address which it is not in my IC. In fact I suspect them use back their old data to put in since I use ebilling. Called up and they apologised for the mistake.

Then only I found out in my bill how come got such charges.

On the side note, I saw this https://support.apple.com/en-my/HT203982 on their community page. It says that DiGi is an approved carrier. And if it is approved carrier then it should not charge. Is it true?

No wonder under my unbill charges there is a RM0.50. Looks like I gotta call them to get it waived. Each imsg cost Rm0.50? It's absurb to me la
*
Thats the thing. If it is only for activation, why there is a forumer here kena charge RM45 in total?

QUOTE(zher4883 @ Sep 28 2016, 07:26 PM)
Approve carrier = SIM card will work when placing it into the phone. Newer iPhone had bands required by Yes 4G LTE but unable to use it because it's not approved carrier.

Oh ok. Thanks for sharing.

I wouldn't mind if it's for activation of RM0.50. If they charge me everytime I use facetime/imsg definitely no no. Anyway will give them a call tmrw. Digi is not like celcom that has online customer service.

If it is only for one time thing then its ok.

But mine is like this -> https://imgur.com/a/7U8ge

Where were u where all these charges were incured? And u used facetime/imsg?

I was at home and line just got activated. Plug in my digi sim, by right only ONE TIME RM0.50 if for activation. Moreover, at that moment I did not even use imessage yet.

In the Message menu, did you turn ON the Send as SMS?
Send as SMS when iMessage is unavailable. Carrier messaging rates may apply.

Turn it OFF and test.
*
Never ON it before.

the trick is , when you get the message (facetime activation- carrier may charge for this ) , just press cancel.

you can still use facetime or imessage with email id, but not your handphone number.

QUOTE(kenlui @ Sep 29 2016, 12:20 PM)
I just called digi to enquire about the facetime/imsg charges.

The guy told me it is not waivable, and the only way to solve this issue is to turn facetime/imsg off on my phone. Ridiculous isnt it?

And he told me everytime I restart my phone i'll be charged. As far as I'm concern, only when we change sim cards right? He further explained that other telcos does not charge as they do not have this IDD sms thing enabled by default which sounds like a full load of crap to me. Since it's RM0.50 i'll just ignore it for now.
*
For my case, I already lodged report to CFM & SKMM. Lets see what they reply on this.

Maxis - Spotify Premium case
Digi - FaceTime/iMessage charges case
Celcom - Below par network performance

So now all big three got their own issues. sweat.gif
*
Spotify not an issue, but more to their pricing strategy.

QUOTE(Chrono-Trigger @ Sep 29 2016, 02:53 PM)
well you can change to maxis , they don't charge for facetime/imessage activation smile.gif

i first noticed the 50 sen charge when i use prepaid , 4)3' when i convert to postpaid iphone, i was told by digi staff that they do charge for imessage activation.

so now i only use my email as facetime / imessage ID. other than that not much complain on digi. still a good telco.

has anyone here written in to digi to highlight the issue?
*
Wrote in already but they said they cant do much.
