buy a genuine leather belt and should last more than a year. not those ones with the glued shiny top layer though. thats the first to go.... i got a few belts wear alternatively depending on baju. can last around 3-6 years already. the shiney buckles also are a problem. best to get matte finish.

Genuine Leather is just another class of leather.. Yes it is leather but not the highest grade.
Full Grain leather > Top grain leather > Genuine leather.

Don't go for 'Genuine leather'. Full grain at least. Even better, go for bridle leather or harness leather. These are leathers made for horse riding so they are very strong and long lasting even when used outdoors.
My faves that I have bought are from Narragansett Leather and Leather Goods Connection. About RM2xx.

I tailor made my belt with during one of my trips to Cameron Highlands. This dude has a stall that sells all kinds of leather products, he cuts the leather from a raw hide and made the belt as per the thickness and size I wanted with the right type of buckle and option to change in the future the buckle. Awesome, today its about 4 years old and still in pristine condition. It costed me about RM90. Dude told me if I apply proper care like nubook old once in 6 to 8 months, the belt will last me a life time!
I am beginning to think its all possible.

If you can go to Times Square tomorrow, there is a clothes fair near Papa Johns area. Cheap leather belts for less than RM100. Limited designs though.
