Anyone can explain the main difference between getting a 18-200mm
and getting a 18-55mm and a 55-250mm? Is there an advantage to having two lenses instead of one?
18-200 is for convenience.

It costs a lot more than having 18-55 + 55-250 as well.

18-55 + 55-250 gives you overall better reach (though 200 to 250 difference is so little, so so so so little) and arguably better image quality.

18-200 because of the long focal length coverage you sacrifice some image quality, especially towards the telephoto side. The good news is that you likely won't feel it.

Either way you can't go wrong, just don't buy stuff like those el-cheapo Tamron 70-300, that one at 300mm has extremely bad chromatic abberation.

why need 2 lenses, where you can do all with just one lens?

Also, take note the f stop of the lenses. Id go for 18-200 any day.

You can ask Canon Service Center about Camera & Lens Calibration.  They usually take both your lens and body in.  I hear it is not really a cheap service and people usually do this for zoom lenses as its harder to fully calibrate those.

Anyway, anyone know where can calibrate third party lenses?

its gonna be costly. Its a mere nifty fifty lens. LOL

Had that problem with the Tamron 17-50mm VC and it sucked.  All I could do is pull out the camera battery and put it back in to reset the camera and also eject and reconnect the lens.  Like a total reset of the camera and then it works again.  Lucky I had zero crash errors while it is recording.  I do notice it crashes when VC activates during liveview.  I do feel something inside the lens there is a problem.  It did eventually stop working and it cost rm500 for sent in repair sad.gif .  After fixing the problem it was perfect for few months and then once a while I do see the error again.  Eventually sold it off.  I understand that VC is really awesome for handheld video with superior unmatched stabilization.  But when you're more serious about video better invest in a good monopod then it won't matter what lens you use.

If still under warranty maybe send it in for a check and repair.

Now upgraded to the Tamron 24-70 VC and ZERO problems!  Which is good because this one is way more expensive!

Third party lenses are not bad. The newer lens models tend to be good and seem to have much better build quality. Its just tamron 17-50mm vc is old and not yet updated.

For video you can try sigma 18-35mm f1.8 and use monopod. This sigma is loved by video guys that sony and panasonic user use it with a metabones.

Guys, is it worth dumping some cash on a 24mm STM? My setup is a 60D, Sigma 17-50, Canon 10-22, nifty fifty, and I travel a lot, which is why I am considering the 24mm since it makes the camera so much lighter & compact. Most of the time I have the 10-22 on though because of its ultra wide angle.

I probably shouldn't ask in this topic..
But since everyone's using Canon, so I did this anyway...

Is there anyone feel like having an extra EF-50mm f/1.8 but still in good condition?
I'm looking for a 50mm but not really willing to buy a new 1 or 3PL (YongNuo) lens..
