Gods of Egypt is an upcoming American fantasy film featuring ancient Egyptian deities. The film is directed by Alex Proyas and stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Gerard Butler, and Geoffrey Rush. Butler plays the god of darkness Set who takes over the Egyptian empire, and Thwaites plays the mortal hero Bek who partners with the god Horus, played by Coster-Waldau, to save the world and to rescue his love.

Filming took place in Australia under the studio Summit Entertainment. While the film's production budget was $140 million, the parent company Lionsgate's financial exposure was less than $10 million due to tax incentives and pre-sales. When Lionsgate began promoting the film in November 2015, it received backlash for its predominantly white cast playing Egyptian characters. In response, Lionsgate and director Alex Proas apologized for the lack of casting diversity. Lionsgate plans to release Gods of Egypt in theaters on February 26, 2016. The film will be released in 2D and RealD 3D.

Gods of Egypt (2016)

Apart from Mov_freak, I am also an Anything_To_Do_With_Ancient_Egypt_Freak...

So you can imagine my excitement when I first saw this trailer.

I remember the last time an ancient Egypt subject based movie I was so looking forward to was the Stargate movie...

So, how did this movie fare?

Did it live up to my expectation?

Unfortunately, not quite...

Don't get me wrong, ancient Egypt never looked so good.

This movie has got really high production value.

The relationship/interaction between the gods... are passable to me (based on my knowledge of ancient Egypt mythology)

So, where do the issues lay?

I have to go with... casting...

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Gerard Butler may not have been the best choice for Horus & Seti's respectively...

Also, trying to appeal to the young'un by having the Brenton Thwaites & Courtney Eaton characters Bek & Zaya, did not really gel (aftermath of Twillight. Yes I said it, I'm BLAMING Twilight)

Also the over reliance on CGI, some scenes I was actually reminded of The Monkey King (2014) *shudder* ... Yes... THAT

You have no idea how much I want to absolutely love this movie, and with high expectation, disappointment may result, and in this case, it did.

This is JUST a passable movie

My Two Sen.

I got a feeling it gonna tank worldwide

watching trailer is like watching a video game trailer
too much cheapo CGI

won't be going into cinema to watch it even it's starring few of my fav actors.

I gotta say, the 1st time I saw the trailer, my immediate 1st thought was, "What's Gerald Butler doing over here?". He just doesn't seem to fit in, both the role and the movie, and then when the CGI-fest took over the trailer, it reminded me of Clash of the Titans, which I thought was an over-hyped movie.

I'm skipping Gods of Egypt and saving up for London Has Fallen and KungFu Panda.
Oh, almost forgotten about Eddie the Eagle.

King Leonidas vs Jamie Lannister laugh.gif

Anyway, this movie is already being heavily criticized for extreme whitewash of Egyptian gods doh.gif

The love child of Clash of Titans and The Mummies, and I don't mean it in a good way.

It's bad, and it really is like a video game.

Never mind the bad reviews...I would certainly pay to watch Courtney Eaton's fabulous cleavage all over again.

The only salvation I held dearly onto to survive the ordeal was Courtney Eaton's boobs.

By watching the trailers turn me away from watching this. This show how bad the production is.
