Gods of Egypt (2016)

Apart from Mov_freak, I am also an Anything_To_Do_With_Ancient_Egypt_Freak...

So you can imagine my excitement when I first saw this trailer.

I remember the last time an ancient Egypt subject based movie I was so looking forward to was the Stargate movie...

So, how did this movie fare?

Did it live up to my expectation?

Unfortunately, not quite...

Don't get me wrong, ancient Egypt never looked so good.

This movie has got really high production value.

The relationship/interaction between the gods... are passable to me (based on my knowledge of ancient Egypt mythology)

So, where do the issues lay?

I have to go with... casting...

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Gerard Butler may not have been the best choice for Horus & Seti's respectively...

Also, trying to appeal to the young'un by having the Brenton Thwaites & Courtney Eaton characters Bek & Zaya, did not really gel (aftermath of Twillight. Yes I said it, I'm BLAMING Twilight)

Also the over reliance on CGI, some scenes I was actually reminded of The Monkey King (2014) *shudder* ... Yes... THAT

You have no idea how much I want to absolutely love this movie, and with high expectation, disappointment may result, and in this case, it did.

This is JUST a passable movie

My Two Sen.

Wow. Very good job with the screen grabs!! laugh.gif

You forgot to mention that the god Set has a thick Scottish accent!! (which for some odd reason works for Sparta but not ancient Egypt!! tongue.gif)

Lots and lots of armpit brows.gif laugh.gif

I did not notice that.

Maybe Gerald thinks he's in a sequel for '300'  laugh.gif

Forgot to mention.

Father didn't do shite when his children are fighting.

Father was busy working as a 'security guard'  laugh.gif

Well, he is protecting his creation...

I just found out that Thoth was played by Chadwick Boseman (a.k.a. Black Panther [Cat Woman?? if the internet is to be believed??!?] tongue.gif)

I watch the movie knowing Black panter was Thoth anyway, but he was so annoying in this movie ==;

Australia studios shouldnt make movies. Period. George Miller was 1 of a kind Australian.

Hahaha

Apart from the Ancient Egypt theme, I was drawn to the movie because of Alex Proyas

Who did

Dark City (1998)
I, Robot (2004)

Australia may not be as "advanced" as New Zealand in terms of film making...

I think in this case, the casting was an issue for me.

And also the story

I really REALLY did not make sense...
