Hi there! Thanks for the link. I searched for "string" just now and I only got the "LYN string family" thread, guess I missed a "s". Hehe.
But anyway, have browsed through your thread. We are looking for different thing. I'm just curious to find out which guitar strings do most of the guitarists (especially electric guitarists) here prefer. |

I used to be an Ernie Ball guy. Ernie Ball lasts long, it's not too high tension, and it is also cheap.
Then I swithed to D'addarios, great warm sound, even slinkier than Ernie Ball but doesn't last too long, and a bit more expensive than Ernie Ball. Recently switched back to Ernie Ball cause my RG already very warm di so the brighter Ernie Ball better at balancing the tone. D'addario is a bit too muddy with my RG. On the other hand, D'addario will be a good match for single coils. Should tame the harshness quite a bit. But the best strings I have tried so far is Dean Markeley Blues Steel. amazing strings. Sadly very expensive. Almost RM30 for a pack. |

At the moment, using the strings that came with the Jackson RR3 ..... don't feel like they need a change, so I don't change 'em yet. Besides...... after all the horror stories of the Floyd Rose.... I think I'll wait until my excessive Floyd Rose pyromaniacs snap a string thankyouverymuch.
Once that happens, will swap in D'addarios .009...... As for my Les Pauls.... using GHS Boomers, Zakk Wylde Signatures (what else!).... at 010, 013, 017, DY36, DY52, DY60..... yes. 60s. Freakin' thick..... but could get thicker (at 70!!) My Crap Strat still uses Ernie Ball .09s..... But once the big upgrade next year, will change them to .10 D'addario..... |

i find ernie balls much warmer than d'addarios in my SG's and LP.
the warmest sounding i have tried are the fender bullets, but those break very fast. |

Elixir Anti-Rust gauge 11. Not that they sound better than other brands, but because I really can't be bothered to change strings every month.

Me too using d'adarrios .095s .... not too thin, not too thick ... just nice for me. Fingers won't feel pain while forming a chord, power chord or some soloing ..... while that's when your fingers season cow cow

D'addarios! standard 9s for my strat and custom 10-56 (or was it 58) for my les paul. currently also on my taylor but thats coz i tak cukup duit. would be changing to elixir as soon as i get more money.
tried DR and also dean markley. tone wasnt really my type. ernie ball slinky tone just doesnt seem to go right with a les paul or strat. plus they wear out too easily and from my experience do break more often than d'addarios(which is smth i dont want to happen since i dont carry back up guitars to gigs). tried fender bullet on my strat once and i do agree it breaks way too easily. |

I've once started out by using those low E's 8 untill i've got some issues with the 8 not being able to scream...
At one time I've read somewhere that Hendrix once told some dude about strings and he replied...Nothing below 11's..(Its sissy strings he (hendrix) mentioned at the end of the phrase.. Brand nothing particular but always Earnie Ball and GHS...Sometimes Daddario also but not too offten..dont like the colored ballss....hehehhee This post has been edited by antonio: Dec 30 2006, 12:47 AM |

I tried .11s once.... but didn't find them comfortable bending on the higher strings. The ZWs worked out well because I always chug on the lower end, while "shred" *cough* *cough* on the higher strings.... so I get a nice balance.

previously using ernie ball, standard 0.09 on my strat copy. now changed to D'addario 0.09 for strat copy, 0.10 for LTD F-200. hmm.. i think it's time to try on something different now... =) |

For my acoustic guitar, I use Fender 0.10 but it seems not enough strength ... since i'm a unplugged performer .... that's not enough power compare to 0.11 or 0.12 ...

Elixirs nanoweb
.11 - .49 will go .11 - .52 cuz i didnt know they had that gauge =p really lasting strings its the 4-5th month, no signs of bad rusting only the coating is peeling off abit and they sound really bright, which really compliments my guitar darker tone |

some ppl commented that coated strings r abit dull compare to non-coated strings...but superbly long lasting and less squeeking sound from the string...if ur not those who r too picky abt tone...elixir would be a very good choice...
d'addario EXP is oso coated strings like elixir...nvr tried b4...but read it in some other forums that this string sounds better than elixir..yet had the same features of elixir.. |

Anyone can verify this? i use ghs fast fret on mine and the hold for at least a month. Same for the EXL nickel wound bass ones. Unless you are talking about the EXP phosphor bronze. They tend to be less bright than the pure bronze ones. |

Ernie Ball...10-46 best suits my guitar....for D' addarios...09-42 would be better....before this i'm using GHS bommers 10-46...not really suits me...bend-up could be a litle hard...and i choosed D' addario for its coloured ball ends....Ernie ball for long lasting....and GHS Fast Fret to protect string from rusted...

QUOTE(soulfly @ May 12 2007, 06:36 PM) it's around rm20-22.i started out wih ernie ball. but they tend to rust on me pretty easy. same goes for gibson and fender. then some years back, i couldn't get an ernie so ended up with d'addario exl120. been using it since on my electric guitar. i like how twangy it feels using ernie's earthwood on accoustic. great sound. but the wounded strings gets dead pretty quick. any recommendations? preferably something cheaper with less tension and same gauge. |

QUOTE(zeroglyph @ May 14 2007, 01:58 PM) . it tends to get warmer as the string ages, by my ear that is. last quite long too. or could it be that the string is slowly dying? i will always use ernie ball as its a good compromise string. sounds just warm enough, and most importantly doesnt break. one of the warmest sets i tried was the fender bullets, but they break very easily. |

Anyone know where I can get Ernie Ball Power Slinky strings around PJ ?
Harmony Music? Currently using 46-10 regular slinky ernie ball, snapped them so many times during jammin that I have to put in new strings a few days before any performances. Starting to loose faith in ernie ball.. shrug. |

both of them last pretty long
elixirs of course longer since they are coated strings the nanoweb elixirs sounds really really bright while the slinky's are pretty warm but they rust eventually usually bout the 2nd week i play them |

gc raised the price for elixirs nanoweb electric alr
its rm42 per pack instead of 39 T_T dang that gc and elixirs do rust abit, look at the part of the strings where its in contact with the frets they should appear darker signifying rust =/ This post has been edited by sean392: Jun 30 2007, 05:54 PM |

i use ernie ball 008s. I like the strings thin beacause they're much easier to play. I would consider trying the yngwie malmsteen signatures, if i can get my hands on them.they're apparently .032 for the low E or something like that/

I still like the new Dunlops...... once my current pack runs dry, I think I'll order in a box of 10 or 20.
Gotta love the .60s! But yeah, the .70s are CRAZY...... Zakk uses it on I think 2 guitars...... both drop tuned to BADGBE..... On the early Black Label Society stuff...... especially on Sonic Brew and Stronger Than Death....... the BADGBE rears it's ugly head..... but super cool tone...... Check out No More Tears 2000 and Superterrorizer for the killer tunings. My .60s are already close to breaking the neck...... and the .70s will just kill it on normal tunings..... IF I get a Gibson Les Paul Standard, the Gibby will be standard tuning on .42-.10.... the LP-100 will be half stepped down, and the LP ZW will be A Full step down....... then I got the complete set! |

And they all sucked a$$. Hate ernie ball so much, after trying other brands. The Stainless Steel tone is DEAD, seriously. Unless you're like metal/distortion all the way, then maybe ok lah. But it's so dead, strings also feels lifeless. And one thing about Ernie Ball, they snap real fast and easy. Never looked back in regret after I stopped using Ernie Ball. I think you're better off spending ur money on the normal slinky or D'addario strings instead, altho D'addario's not my type either. |

Been using d'addario 9-42 and 10-46 for more than 10 years now
Although I always encourage myself to try all the brands of strings out there... I miss Dean Markley Blue Steel, those cryogenics activation strings, dunno where to get 'em in KL...been using those strings alot when I was in Europe years ago...the breakage fatality of that string is almost zero/nil... Right now using Slinky Custom Gauge, 9-46...pretty versatile, you can shred the bottom strings while still bend the top strings like crazy (also nice tapping and pull off/hammer on) |

Yeah it looks exactly like this, but i didnt see its detail whether it's electric or acoustic strings. Better give them a call to find out. |

Better give them a call to find out. Imma going check the place out soon, these strings are superb! This strings holds the tone longer than any other strings I use...very loud, yet refined...and somewhat easy to press, the 10-46 felt like pressing a 9.5-42 But the downside is not to install the strings in the cold temps in the wee hours, (2am to 7am) it needs to be install in an average temp of the day...simply explain, it's to do with the molecule configuration in the strings when initial tension applied onto the strings... |
