They might, since Senn has upgraded the 650. Senn needs to keep the 660S exclusive by keep producing his older brother at a lower price.

hmmm planning upgrade to 6xx end of next year then!

noooooooo just got my 600 and almost needled my wallet to death with chi-fi and headphones already.
BUT next additional item is a cheap amp, although i dont know if a magni would be any significant increasement from dac-x6...

Don't worry. I bet they will still have the drop in the future. What is your take on the Dac-X6 ? Sound signature I mean.
*
quite neutral. i dont find it warm. can make m40x and k240 sibilant at times. Both of these has has very similar spike around 10k, so that is expected, while neutral with hd 600.
experimenting different op amps now (2604, 5532), quite like 49860, but generally the differences are neglectable. waiting for muses 8920 but i doubt it will make much different.
at low gain can power hd600 til uncomfortable level at 12 oclock, and never pass 10 at high gain. this thing has power, which making an upgrade to magni 3 even harder.

I drive my HD6XX at most 1 O'clock at high gain. The magni 3 is neutral but smooth at the top end and it really depends on your source. It's quite clean, no distortion or anything. Honestly, I can't imagine a better amp at its price; at sub $300, it's in my top 3.
*
will be heading to singapore next year and maybe drop by and check out magni 3 there. wondering if i should bring my dac-x6 along for magni 3 audition. or simply fiio Q1 should be enough, since i will be using my dacs.

Yeah, already compared between the two forwarder and I just choose EZiPos bcoz it is slightly cheaper and becoz it is local based.
Now, hunting for good and cheap amp. laugh.gif

It's quite hard to bring dac or amp that need a power source during canjam but a portable setup and headphones/IEM are recommended. Try the magni 3 there, you'll not be disappointed  nod.gif

hmm the problem now is i only got kz3 and zs5 as iems... soo.... NEW IEM!
i kid. i suppose i can use their hd600 for audition.

It's a bargain when compares with a setup around USD 10k. It's DIY amp and this is the old version, the newest they have is DSHA-4 (solid state) and L3 (tube amp). Since the DSHA-0 is a prototype, Doug from ECP doing a lot of experiment with it. The DSHA-0 is better than DSHA-1/2 and L2 but slightly below than DSHA-3. One of the Head-fier said his L3 combo with HD800 are nearly on par with KGSHHV carbon + SR009. Doug really know what he is doing  biggrin.gif

Sorry. I missed that for some reason. I know someone here who use FX Dac-6, that could be a good option; Modi 2 and JDS ODAC is another option.
*
Did someone mentioned DAC-X6?!

Like I said, I will be using the Massdrop O2 as my amplifier, so I need some recommendations for a dac that is portable. Budget below rm500.
*
Using O2 and Fiio Q1 (Portable DAC/AMP) here.
The only brand you need to look at is Fiio for that price range. K1 (RM200) is portable dac, no build in battery, small and should be ok to pair with O2.
Same goes with Q1(~rm300) and Q1 mk2 (RM479). Both are quite powerful, should be ok to power HD6xx alone, can confirm because Q1 can power my HD600 to listenable level.
If your objective is to make your dac and O2 portable, I'd strongly suggest consider K1 or even Audioquest DragonFly (RM1k), because O2 isn't exactly small.

For desktop, yes like Sanpai ahmadfaizadnan said, DAC-X6 is ok to power HD6XX too. Fiio has desktop amp too at reasonable price.
Other desktop DAC i am researching too are Topping's D30, Massdrop x Grace Design's SDAC and JDSLab's OL DAC. OL DAC will be replacing ODAC. All these are around USD100-110, with SDAC the cheapest at USD80 not including shipping. SDAC will be on MD mid this month.

For the HD6XX, essentially a HD650, the Q1 & Q1 Mark II does not have enough power to drive it properly. You'll lose the resolution on the lower end.
*
yeap its underpower with quiet songs.

just bought an HD 598 for RM550, pretty much brand new since the previous owner only used it for 2 days
gonna do a comparison with my hd 202-ii and kingston hyperx cloud 1
btw, anyone know where to get a shorter cable for the hd 598 with 3.5mm jack at the end of it?
*
Try looking for the shop name call POYATU audio store on Aliexpress, bought few cables from them, including for hd600. Not bad quality. I think they have with mic version too, in case you want gaming with it.

Anyone has been there? Just want to know whether they're friendly or not. Wanna try hd6xx series there..

they are cool. some of their staff a bit inexperience with headphones but that was expected from a new place.
They carry 600, 650 and 660s. 700 and 800s too.

Good place to try the 660s. I never had any chance to audition them yet.
*
tried 660s. but the place is a bit noisy to test open backs. Not a bad headphone, but a bit underwhelming coming from HD600.

I would've expect that too especially with the current HD600/650/6XX price. Not sure if its worth the price difference.

if i havent bought the HD600, maybe.
