hello bros, just got my self a hd660s, just wondering if all 600's family all have laid back vocal/voice?
1)I'm coming from a hd515, I found this 660s main vocal were pretty muffled/ laid back or not as bright/lively/forward when compare with the 515. Pretty much all my flac track sounded that manner with this 660s.
2) Dav koz sax tracks such as [yesterday] sounded shitty AF when compared with 515, even my cheap ATH e40 could reproduce better sounding sax.
3) Mariah Carey tracks, vocal were like as per mentioned above.
3) Staging narrow and not as airy/ wide as 515. There's some slight suffocating feel with this 660s. feels like you are in a very small room.
The only stuff that I would consider upgrade is the bass, bass are tight and higher level of instrument details can be heard.
Player : Foobar2k
EQ : Flat , all other enhancement off.
DAC : Creative USB SB1240 24bit/96k
AMP : Topping A50S , 515 connected to 6.3 jack, 660s connected to balanced jack.
I'm having slight regret for getting "pajeeted" by those youtube review. should had throw the cash on crypto instead
If you prioritize vocal performance, then hd660s is the wrong headphone already. Hd650 which has higher treble than hd660s also sound muffled to me when it comes to voice. It's also possible the thicker mids are masking the voice making it sound muffled.1)I'm coming from a hd515, I found this 660s main vocal were pretty muffled/ laid back or not as bright/lively/forward when compare with the 515. Hd600 has the most natural voice. Especially smooth when paired with tube amp or certain solid state amp.
But give the hd660s some time. You may end up liking it. It's gonna sound good on other genres and you may find your music taste changing with the headphones.
