actually, I havent got the chance to test any of the switches and how do mechanical keyboards feel different from the normal laptop keyboard I am currently using. So I'm quite confused on what type of switches I should go for. I know for sure some have the clicky sound and some don't. I would prefer a quite one.

So another question, why do I even need a mechanical keyboard? Does it make my typing experience better? or are there some other benefits from getting these type of keyboards?

Has anyone found royal kludge rc930 topre clone 2nd generation with 108 keys instead of 104 yet on Taobao? Please share link with me if you found it or have any resource about saying when it will be sold on taobao. So far i only seen the one Massdrop sells...

its clicky but i am not sure how good it is after playing for a few hours. going to shop pressing a few times cannot tell me much

Since I'm planning to get one for myself, care to share from whom did you bought it? Maybe it's manufacture defect. If it's me I would try to plug it in other laptop to see if it's really the keyboard's fault.

I just got mine and I'm unimpressed to say the least.

The quality of the moulded plastic case is shoddy (worse than many membrane kbs), the sliders are scratchy on both the upstroke & downstroke (I would go as far as to say they are unusable without lubrication), the RGB modes are bleh, and 3 of my keycaps have HOLES in them! 



These are just a few of my grievances. I could go on and on, but at the end of the day the RK930 is definitely NOT an accurate reflection of what Topre is supposed to feel like. Rather, it is a cheap bastardized version of the Topre experience mainly because of these factors:
1) Scratchy action
2) Factory dental bands
3) Length of sliders adjusted to compensate for said dental bands (this affects the key travel distance, more so if you choose to remove the dental bands)
4) Questionable dome weighting (55g RC930 feels lighter than 55g Topre)

No way will this board make it as part of my rotation, let alone become my daily driver. To anybody that wants to own Topre but can't yet afford one: Save your money. This is not a shortcut answer. I am surprised this board got a good review on Massdrop, now I know why Geekhack people always complain that Massdrop people are noobs.

If you have not tried a proper Topre (or at least a Novatouch) before, you now have a dilemma - choose to be ignorant and not try it just so you'll be oblivious to how bad the RK930 is in comparison - or try it and you might end up throwing your RK930 away.
I suggest you don't.

Keychatter/livingspeedbump is a respected reviewer. I just googled his review and I have to totally agree with these parts:
The problem is the hype from noobs on Massdrop & to some extent Reddit have blown ppl's expectations (including mine) to unreasonable levels. So it was a letdown when I got the RC930.

However, I have to disagree with this:
Mine has obvious flex when I try twisting it with wrist power. I don't dare try twisting it with arm power. And I'm still pissed off about the holes in my keycaps

Ah ok. After looking closely at keychatter's pics, I believe his caps have holes too. I wonder why he did not mention this.

Just discovered a faulty LED as well. What a piece of crap. This board is confirmed the worst MKB I've ever owned.

I managed to sort out the LED issue, as expected the LED itself was okay but the resistor was busted.

I couldn't find the exact SMD resistor so I used a regular one instead.



Looks ugly but works perfectly. Will desolder & replace it with the proper SMD resistor once I've taobao-ed it.

It's an easy mod, you won't need to spend a lot of time on it 

Opening the casing shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes if it's your first time (or 10 minutes if you're experienced).

The actual soldering takes only 5 minutes.
