Hi Guys, i'm a newbie in this arena and i just bought a scanner here in australia. I have gone through the manual and pretty much understand most of it but there's a setting in the menu which enables me to set the tuning dial to either 1 MHz, 10 MHz or 100kHz. What does this do ya?

Hope you guys can enlighten me with this.

But there's another setting options whereby the tuning steps are as per below

• 5.0 kHz • 6.25 kHz • 8.33 kHz • 9.0 kHz
• 10.0 kHz • 12.5 kHz • 15.0 kHz • 20.0 kHz
• 25.0 kHz • 30.0 kHz • 50.0 kHz • 100.0 kHz

Wonder what's the difference?

Sorry for not including the model of my scanner initially. I'm using the Icom IC-R5 and it covers from 0.150–1309.995 MHz.

Wiraone, thanks for the response. Anyway, i set the tuning step at 5kHz and the dial step at 100kHz.

When i tried to turn the dial to set the frequency it still takes the 5kHz setting not the 100kHz. Scanning also takes the 5kHz step.

So that's why i'm confused what is the dial step setting is for.
