I dont know where I put all the books that I had. Hopefully I manage to find it and pass it to you all for photocopy. I am using a Icom V8 but yet not really active with it compare to last time. Planning to get Yaesu FT8900R  smile.gif

If you guys really interested, let Earl or myself know maybe you guys can group together and study for the exam. I dont think I can remember much on those formulas but for those who in E&E field should face no problem on answer questions in RAE.

It's good to see more and more ppl are interesting in this hobby as Asian country like our neighbour Indonesia and Japan have quite high ratio number of ppl enjoying ham radio.

BTW RG58 in Pasar Rd is about RM1.50 last time (2004) but not sure the current price.

hahaha i met up with this 9w2 fella the other day, he was using the 8900, seems that a lot of people seem sto like this model very much ... dual bander with crossband repeater, another 9w2 from Segamat was using it and another dualbander as a repeter around the Segamat area during the flood ... his own repeater ...

haha like that one day we come out yumcha la ... see how la ...

mine is a v82 ... 7whiskey ... err so far i can hit the genting repeater on the commercial club freq la ... and during the trip down to Segamat last week, it was operated by another 9w2, seems to be good on the simplex also, but was using an external diamond antenna la with a magmount on the pickup ...

very much depends on the power u are transmitting and the propagation ... the area you are in ...

but the best wan this fella in Muar, he is using this vx700(if i remembered correctly la) one of the highest range diamond outdoor antenna ... the fella was able to simplex with another fella which was from Muar to Linggi near Seremban ... with a 5/9 ...

bioweapon, yeah went down there last two week, got some friends together and passed the hat along, we managed to get about RM1.5k, so we bought some stuff and sent it down, was actually suppose to follow the convoy of 17 jalopy down ...

but then we had quite a lot of stuff(gas stoves, materess, blanket, foods) ... then i contacted 9W2TKC, he got another friend's jalopy and we went on separate ways, they went on to kampung peta and some orang asli settlements, i went over to kampung jawa and passed the stuff to 9W2PCK, it was raining when we arrived, was suppose to pass out the stuff on that day, but it was raining and everyone was packing and evacuating .. so we elft the stuff to be distributed by PCK...

the fellas vx7000 is on a ... i think at least 15feet pole, on the roof which is more or less 3 storey high ...

Hey guys!
Another HAM wannabe here. I am very interested in getting the license. Maybe we can organise a gathering/TT so that ppl like me can get more information on taking the RAE and getting the license. I am still a student, interested in all these communications, did a Diploma in Telecommunications Engineering, hoping to put my knowledge(if still available) into good use. Hehe... Hope the veteran/licensed bros here would be able to lend a hand!

Thanks!
Regards,
Kelvin.

Bro Earl, which club are you in? Is it nescessary to join a club?

i am currently with this TTCC club, a commercial club, but they are restructing it and relaunching it this March ...

there is others around like SCS too ... but this is kinda expensive ... if you are with a commercial club u can own this sets "legally" or else u will need an AA to be owning one of this amateur radio set ...

there is 2 kinds of club ...

commercial clubs and ham clubs

commercial clubs allows you to transmit and listen
TTCC(Titiwangsa COmmunications Club), SCS

ham clubs allow u to transmit if u have a callsign, or else u only apply for SWL license ...

but normally as long as u have a callsign u can use the repeaters from ASTRA and MARTS ... their national links are very good ...

yeah there is an exam this May, hope i can take it too ...

just let me know la, if you guys wanna comm out yumcha ...

@jleecy

you can compile the list of available participants , but if all those who knows about HAM's are not available , whats the point of even compiling the list of names ? xD

better ask them whether they're free or not first , then can decide whether the list is needed
*

Added on March 2, 2007, 8:47 pmme myself is a noob, been s SWL since the last exam band, thats like December last year i think ...

the thing bout amateur radio in Malaysia is that, there is not much info around from Malaysia itself, there is but not much, a lot of Malay ham member has got their website, but somehow Google has trouble indexing them, maybe its in BM, i think its time to set up a HAM website in English which is gonna be informational to new members ...

me myself had tough time to get more info on this matter, all the official site menton not much on this ... unlike other countries like Thailand and Singapore, ammteur radio is more widely known there ... but thats not the case here in MY ...

but now that we know that there is others who are actually interested in this, we can sit around and talk talk bout it la over some teh tarik ...
