Meanwhile, older BMP-1s and Panzer III under modernization for ukraine army, while the thais got brand new BTR-3E and T-84, from ukraine. sure older equipment is just as effective in counterinsurgwncy warfare, but this is just ridiculous

gonna equip the panzer with what? 105mm smoothbore cannon and IR/Thermal scope?  sweat.gif

but then again, Israel quite successful with their upgraded Shermans during Arab-Israel War..
*
Nyet. 105mm is too unstable for the tank, even a low pressured cockerill 105mm gun. Better install 30mm gun because they have the capability to manufacture them

Nice. The more asset they got, the better. On the same time, APMM should get more speedboats and CB-90s to replace them old junks and complement the upcoming new cutters.

In a sense, we are lucky to have several local companies that produced military helmets, body armor, webbings and whatnot. Afaik malaysian-made body armor are used by Australian army, so we should be proud of it.

EDIT: although I do keen on the SAKTI initiative

had the military dun give a fck abt military spec ship we already buy them ferry LPD from indon(or buy ckd from korea and assembled them ourself like gagah samudera)

I think rmn still looking at flat top lhd, so they might gonna hold on to that. prob with getting cheap/used LPD (or LST) as stopgsp is that rmn may gonna stuck with that ship for a long time bcos MoF won't approve the procurement of the real deal

prob is after the lcs programme, they still need to get plenty of things (new asw helo, kedah class rearmament, getting more sgpv, new subs? lol) so I'd imagine lpd/lhd is gonna be down there in term of priority number

well my point on previous post is..why don't we go for cheapest asset when we need it urgently. Yeah..it's good to have the most advanced asset in ATM inventory.. but do we have enough budgets?

Im just asking..hehe and back to silent reader.
*
we're going for cheap ones if it fills our requirement. sadly some of the requirement is inadequate for our needs.

you need to look at not just the system as a whole, but the subsystem as well.

cherrypicking to make us look bad. classic story telling there

let me tell u ppl abt the barter trade; most of the things that go over there are subsidized goods, that comes from taxpayers money; rice, cooking oil, sugar, LPGs and even petrol/diesel. Wanna know what comes in? Cheap fags and guns

What's pinoy gomen do? i tot they have economic miracle since that aquino dude became el presidente? what is the local rep(mayor, senator) do?goyang kaki makan duit rakyat? Why do WE have to help THEIR poor?

when we facilitate the peace deal what do we get? 200 ppl attacking sabah,. even if we didn't count the incidents, these pilaks have been nothing but trouble. mencuri diorang, menyamun diorang, pecah rumah diorang, peras ugut pun diorang I hope many more operasi come in and deport more of these illegals' asses. Now that even the employer go behind bars as well (instead of puny fines) they will think twice before getting illegals as well

they better come up with "stretched version" of the gagah samudera cuz it can only put 30mm gun..

smaller Incheon-class maybe?

i think Incheon-class frigate would be perfect to fill the LMS role (basically a second line, general purpose frigate that is used to make up the number). At 200 mil a pop you could buy 2 of them for a price of 1 gowind

also, if laksamana class can have 76mm gun (with aspide and otomat missile summore), getting gagah samudera class ship armed isn't really a far-fetched ideas.

Hell it's bigger than tarantul/Osa class corvette

Still hasn't solved the black smoke I see.

Also, 20% composite structure is nothing to brag abt. F/A-50 uses more than 1/3 composite material on its airframe

As much as I want to agreee with him, we need to look at our current assets. Even if somehow we got what the navy wanted:
>2 10ktonnes LHD
>6 Incheon class/Meko 200 frigate for RMN LMS programme
>another 12 kedah-class NGPVs(and rearmament of existig kedah class)
>Both Kasturi class and Lekiu class vessels being upgraded to the max
>12 ASW helo
>6 MPAs
>4 subs (either more scorpene or korea type 214)

Did I forget anything?

Still cannot coubt as blue water navy. Evdn RoKN with Aegis-capable destroyers, more subs and frigate than us isnt truly a blue water navy

For me the one who takes the cake for THE most ridiculous exit door design for an APC was with the Soviet BTR-70 8x8 APC. The exit doors were literally small hatches located between the second and third wheels of the vehicles.

As Soviet doctrine calls for mechanized infantry to dismount their vehicles while on the move, I can only wonder how many Red Army soldiers have been accidentally run over while dismounting before the Soviets improved the exit door design with a larger two-piece hatch in the later BTR-80 versions onward.  laugh.gif

Romanian mechanized Infantrymen dismounting a BTR-70. You can see an infantryman exiting the exit hatch.
*
BTR-87 corrected the design edi, by moving engine to front, so troops can dismount from rear ramp instead of side hatches

well at least time tgh kering ne the military dun just sit around buat bodo say xde bajet

they've enhanced their C4I and BMS capability to include the grunts at tactical level (not just at bigger units like battalion or regiments).

i personally don't think we need to supply all our men with sakti kit, but some of them are necessary (secure vhf radio, data link, optics, etc). If we can match the standard US/british/south korean military i happy edi

We got like what? 6? FN-6 missiles. It's hardly relevent especially when we have close to 300 Anza and Igla (and the upcoming Starstreak Manpads).

MBT, however, would require the army to invest billions of dollars to train new tankers, provide more facilities, associated support vehicles and logistical issues (spares, munitions, maintenance, etc) and all that would go to oblivion the moment China poses arms sanction towards Malaysia.

The more we buy from China, the more dependent we are to them, and this would risk jeoparding our strategic assets in case shit goes south and we cannot torelate their whim any longer. The top brass knew this, even Najib's administration knew about it. That's why we are reluctant to buy anything significant from them.

I'd sooner see we buy Russian tanks than China. Hell maybe we would even gonna do joint development with South Africa, since they are also looking to replace their Olifant tank (somewhere in 2018).

Right now that will have to wait because the army pretty much got what they wanted (AV-8,AV-4, SPH, upgrade of existing armored vehicles, starstreak and additional helos for PUTD). The focus now is shifted to the air force and its ongoing MMRCA programme
*
There's also the Sigint (backdoor trojan, bugs on hardware, etc) concern with chinese product. ZTE and Huawei is practically bant from US military/LE office because of this thing.

maybe if isolated weapon system (manpads, mortars, light howitzer to replace oto melara pack gun), can consider, but chinese radar system? that is feed directly to malaysian NCO/BMS? hell no
