The military bought Starstreak to replace Starburst, which is 1:1 replacement. Anything beyond SHORADS is air force problem (because unless we have fully integrated BMS, those MR-SAM is limited to point defence only, something that can be filled by cheaper SHORADS and VSHORADS).

As for economic purchases, afaik we only buy trains from them, which has negligible effect to the military. What aircraft that we buy? Mind you that MA-60 (Chinese equivalent to ATR-72) is not cleared by FAA and european aviation authorities. It would be a PR disaster if MASwing or Firefly (both are GLCs) buy them and something happens.

If you want to say that we already economically dependent on China, mind you that Taiwan is more dependent on them compared to us, and yet they do not compromise their national sovereignty when it matters.

Any big-ticket purchase from russia is put on hold until some kind of answer (whatever it might be) and closure is provided regarding the MH-17

I don't think the rakyat really care, but problem is that politicians would spin it around and the macais would swallow it all; hook, line and sinkers.
