hard choice between fire on a plane or a hole on a plane tongue.gif
Seriously, for air marshalls, bullets shaped to shatter much easier makes more sense than flammable bullets

I thot frangible bullets made of compacted metal powder already existed? Flammable bullets don't exactly control itself well in crowded airplanes.

Irish police uncover a large cache of weapons and explosives near border with Northern Ireland

user posted image

Irish police have uncovered a suspected dissident republican arms dump containing mortars rounds and AK-47 rifles close to the border with Northern Ireland.

The Garda Síochána said on Tuesday that the searches in the Scotstown area of County Monaghan also found detonators, detonating cord and components for improvised explosive devices.

Gardai have yet to reveal the exact quantity of weapons and explosives parts unearthed in the operation involving specialist anti-terrorist officers, the force’s armed emergency response unit, dog handlers and local gardaí.

The searches are linked to the arrest of a 43-year-old man in the same area last week. Jim Smyth, from near Scotstown, which is about a mile from the Northern Ireland border, was charged with IRA membership at the non-jury special criminal court in Dublin last Saturday.

In a related development, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) revealed that it had seized 700 rounds of ammunition, seven mercury tilt switches used to set off bombs, detonating cord, an assault rifle and firework powder during searches in the Twinbrook area of west Belfast the previous weekend.

ira not dead yet?

The original IRA operated during the early 1920s. Everytime the Republicans agree to peace treaty with the brits and disband, there's always some group not satisfied, splinter off and declare themselves IRA. Probably IRA has 4-5 iterations by now. All the later IRA's follow this pattern.

CIA Inspector General's office 'accidentally' destroys sole copy of Senate report regarding CIA torture allegations

user posted image

The CIA inspector general’s office — the spy agency’s internal watchdog — has acknowledged it “mistakenly” destroyed its only copy of a mammoth Senate torture report at the same time lawyers for the Justice Department were assuring a federal judge that copies of the document were being preserved, Yahoo News has learned.

While another copy of the report exists elsewhere at the CIA, the erasure of the controversial document by the office charged with policing agency conduct has alarmed the U.S. senator who oversaw the torture investigation and reignited a behind-the-scenes battle over whether the full unabridged report should ever be released, according to multiple intelligence community sources familiar with the incident.

The deletion of the document has been portrayed by agency officials to Senate investigators as an “inadvertent” foul-up by the inspector general. In what one intelligence community source described as a series of errors straight “out of the Keystone Cops,” CIA inspector general officials deleted an uploaded computer file with the report and then accidentally destroyed a disk that also contained the document, filled with thousands of secret files about the CIA’s use of “enhanced” interrogation methods.

The 6,700-page report, the product of years of work by the Senate Intelligence Committee, contains meticulous details, including original CIA cables and memos, on the agency’s use of waterboarding, sleep deprivation and other aggressive interrogation methods at “black site” prisons overseas. A 500-page executive summary was released in December 2014 by Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the committee’s outgoing chair. It concluded that the CIA’s interrogations were far more brutal than the agency had publicly acknowledged and produced often unreliable intelligence. The findings drew sharp dissents from Republicans on the panel and from four former CIA directors.

becos as stupid as it is to give camo to the airmen/seamen, this is stupider
*
It's not about the camo per se, it's more about having a good durable working clothes for outdoors work. Although I agree the camo is stupid. The only thing it can hide is probably paint stains. laugh.gif

If the Navy wanted good durable work clothes, I think it will be better if they use a jumpsuit-type outer uniforms to be worn over normal clothes if only there is any outdoor work to be done. Even the US Navy is starting to realize how stupid their own NWU are.

QUOTE
The Navy is ready to dump the military's most pointless uniform

After six years in the fleet and some controversy, the blue-and-gray cammies could be headed for Davy Jones' seabag.

The digital blue Navy Working Uniforms were a fleet mainstay until 2013 after they were found to be unsafe to wear while fighting a fire. One plan is ditching these blue Navy working uniforms in favor of their green cousin. The service could potentially save millions by switching to the woodland cammies already worn by Seabees and master-at-arms. The green-and-tans are also not flame-resistant but would be the standard for ashore wear; flame-resistant coveralls and flight suits are mainstays for at-sea wear.

“I think that there are a lot of folks who wouldn’t be sad, I guess, if Navy working uniform Type I went away,” Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson said in an interview.

He’s heard sailor's complaints that the heaviness of the fabric makes it hot from shoulders to boots. Sailors have told him it's “very uncomfortable,” he said.

Sure, the blue NWUs have been popular with those who like the battle dress-styling. But its camouflage is an open joke. Sailors have called it their “blueberries” and gagged that their foremost value is concealing paint spills. Even the Navy secretary has mocked it, saying three years ago that “the great camouflage it gives is if you fall overboard.”

The number of army and the pga should be suffice.
But more asset placement should be done esp the support's

Haha it bugs me when I mention police force deployed at Lahad Datu incident, some people imagine that beat cops in blue, armed with revolvers, (like those patrolling their neighborhood), went to fight the Sulu intruders back then.

At least one person was genuinely surprised when I said the PGA are fully trained and armed paramilitary troopers. When I explained that PGA was sort of like soldiers belonging to the PDRM, the only reaction I got was "Got such thing meh?". laugh.gif

Considering only 2 troopers were KIA, I'd say the PGA did a good job. Note that the Army also lost 2 soldiers, although one of them died in a traffic accident.

People who always cited that the PDRM lost a lot of men conveniently forgot that out of the 10 total casualties including the above, 6 were plainclothes Special Branch officers who were ambushed by heavily armed gunmen in Semporna water village.

poor buggers. rip

The thing is they were ambushed at Semporna, far enough from Lahad Datu that probably the SB unit thought they were just checking out a usual case. Probably the last place they would expect to confront such heavily armed pinoys. The fact that they managed to kill 7 pinoy gunmen in the engagement is simply amazing.

2 policemen did survive though, they hid and fought off pinoy gunmen all night until their backup arrived the next morning.

err 25 guys go in
19 survive, 6 killed

they outnumber the terrorist but ultimately outgunned cuz they only got handguns meanwhile the terrorist got assault rifles
*
If I remember right, there were 2 guys that were stuck in the village all night and couldn't get out until backup came in the morning. They ran around the water village hiding and doing running battles with the gunmen all night.
