I would like the opinion of the owner of Honda Civic FD 1. Any particular issues for this version of Civic i should notice of ? I would appreciate if you could provide me some insights.

My current car is Proton Wira 1.6, bought 5 years ago by cash money. Cars working fine, no issue, except the power windows , but it seems that this is a right time to change a car.
My max budget is 50-60k for 2nd hand car, i was thinking to buy a nice and comfortable car. Preferably 1.8 - 2.0 CC .
Personally i like the outlook of this Civic, for me is better than the latest version currently now on Malaysian market.

check very thoroughly... have seen some shop 'magic' happen before

-check service records (if any) for inconsistencies or whatnot, do a background check if possible (take a look at the grant, look for the previous owners ask them if u can)
-check interior wear and see if it matches the milage
-resprayed, so check the body, underside, inside the panels if possible might have had accidents before
-dont take the value of the mods (like the kit) into account, 2nd hand parts are of very little value
-check if its been modified before

i am always septic of these cars in shops

me too, i wont fall into 100% free accident bullshit. I should bring a mechanic with me.
what worried me is major repair need to be done after almost 9 years of service.

I see.. fd1 = 1.8

Imho, this is the best looking civic ever. (Until 2016)
Don't expect too much on nvh or "very comfortable" suspension. It's a car that give you a bit "ricer" feeling.

155 hp, 188 torque. More than enough for daily use biggrin.gif
Love the rr mugen bodykit.

i know, but compare to my current wira, definitely is an upgrade.

power steering pump failure, cost about 1.3k to fix em
possible engine mounting replacement, cost 1.2k to fix em
car tends to vibrate when fan kicks in (not related to mounting, its design problem)
rear wheel bearing issue, cost 275/pc excluding labour charge

city drive, 1.8 seems to have enough pickup power, but during highway cruising, definitely not, due to sohc engine
decent fc, approx 430km/tank @ 70% city 30% highway, rev up to 3.5k rpm max
with proper suspension setups, u can take on corners confidently.
bad nvh (design defect, cant do much to fix it)
quite a tahan lasak car
can do up to 170kmh easily

my suggest: get 2.0 instead of 1.8

Holy.. Thanks for your insights. Yup i am planning to get 2.0, i have been using wira to travel back from KL to Penang, just imagine how tiring is that.
