Hi everyone, I'm getting a MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display, I don't know whether to get 128GB or 256GB flash storage then later on upgrade it, and 500+ GB is like 8k so it's not happening. Anyone here got their early 2015 MacBook Pro with Retina Flash storage upgrade before? May I know where to upgrade and around how much? Thank you.

Not sure about upgrade after purchase by 'outsider'...

but definitely no to 128GB...

well...512GB might not necessary if you manage your files nicely...

upgrade and say bye bye to warranty mate. it's not soldered on but it's not exactly user replaceable either. Not for the 80% of apple's userbase at least.

buying an OEM PCIe storage drive for 1TB model is almost 5k ringgit.

for 2014 model and newer, its not possible to do self upgrades.
OWC only provides rMBP 2012 and 2013 Flash Storage modules

Dun ever even consider the 128gb version. It is just waste of time. If you are considering adding extra flash storage, it means u need more storage, so buy the bigger capacity version straightaway. No point to go thru the hassle to get from outside for upgrade, it maybe cheaper by a little bit, but it is definitely not worth the trouble to go thru the hassle.

256gb is not a lot, but it is the minimum storage size u should only consider if u are buying a MacBook. 256gb ssd has double the write read as compared to 128gb also, so it is definitely worth it to pick up 256gb one at least.

You can get the 128GB model first
Later on, it is possible to get the 1TB module of eBay and ship to Malaysia to upgrade. BRY7

Right now, the latest 1TB module Apple is using, IINM, is Samsung SM951. Pretty sure its around RM2k
Good invesment for a laptop whether youre gonna use it for 5 years or sell it 2 years after for a higher price

I think you better do another check.

Attached Image

Cheapest one so far is around USD$885

Definitely not within the RM2k range...

In a couple of weeks there will be an apple event. Don't you think it's not a good idea to get a mac now. Prices may drop due to new models bring introduced.

Yes it is

Method 1:
1TB model - http://store.mcetech.com/mm/merchant.mvc?S...1TBPCIESSD-2015

256Gb model - http://store.mcetech.com/mm/merchant.mvc?S...BPCIESSD-L13M14

Method 2:
Search for your MBP model, e.g a rMBP 13" 2014 model has model A1502. Search on eBay for A1502 SSD and you get tonnes of options to change it.
Works the same for the 2015 models.

(added in the links to the online store)

I realize if you revert from beta to stock software. Your Photos library becomes corrupted. And unrecoverable. 6 years worth of memories is gone 😔
