Just simply enter the eligible areas(i.e. Bangsar, Sunway) as the pick up point, then choose some ridiculously far/remote areas(i.e. Gerik, Gua Musang) for drop-off, get rejected twice then you will get free RM8 promo code from grab within 72 hours.

Even if supply and demand, i think rider should be informed first instead of sudden surge when i reached the destination. This happened to Uber only.

For example:
Trip to KL with promo code stated the fees as RM13.
When i reach KL (without jam and whatsoever), suddenly the driver charged RM37.

I am a frequent Grab & Uber rider. No matter whether there are increased of demand or what so, Uber should not suddenly surged the charge by 2.9x. I do understand that Uber rate is not fix especially if there is jam but I think using high demand, low supply as an explanation is totally ridiculous!

If the demand is high and supply is low, Uber should upfront increase the rate from RM13 to perhaps RM15-18...very unethical to suddenly charge more when the rider reached the destination.

Now for the first 3 rides? time to find a new prepaid number to register. 

Not related to promo but just an opinion to GRAB latest update for Android. The latest update is the worst. They won't allow us to save promo codes and make us manually enter code at any request. So inconvenient. Guess they are controlling riders who uses promo codes anyway.

The thing is.. I am a more frequent user of Grab than my friends yet they received the code and I didn't. That's what makes me unhappy with Grab.

Last time they offer the "RM0 for rides RM7 and below" promo and they extended it, only to selected users. Those "selected users" are those who have not activated Grabpay, so they're using that as a method to attract them to use Grabpay.

I have been one of the earliest and faithful adopters of Grabpay yet I did not receive any added gifts from Grab.

Back to this Merdeka promo, I've been using Grab much more than my friends (I am almost a Platinum member, but just couldn't reach it by just a few hundred points before the period was refreshed)

My friends who are hardly Silver members received the promo while I didn't. Maybe because I always gave feedback and complaints to Grab?

To add salt to the wound, Grab increased their price quite dramatically recently.

Previously a ride from my hostel to college was RM5, then increased to RM6 with the new fare structure, then now it's RM7
Uber is offering it at RM4+.

They removed most of Grabshare which has in the past eased my student financial woes whenever I need to travel alone, like going to the airport via Putrajaya.
(RM28 with Grabshare, RM37 with Grab, but now RM45 after price hike)

To avoid giving non-paying customer free rides ?

I think the only reason you do not want to apply the promo code is when the ride costs less than the coupon. In that case, for the next promo, you will get a coupon with a lower value so it does not go to waste. This is why different people get different amount for promo, the coupon is meant to subsidize your ride, not suppose to make it free. Different people have different price point to pay for a ride, and something it's just that difference of RM5 or RM10 to make them take their first ride. After that, hopefully it becomes second to nature to think of Grab or Uber when needing a transport.

I agree that recently Uber has been losing a lot of drivers, causing the fares to shoot up and becomes more expensive than Grab. What this means is that Grab is probably playing the games right to capture the driver's heart rather than winning the passenger's. However, what is going to happen is that, Grab driver will find themselves earning less because there's now more Grab drivers on the road, so the winner is Grab and their passengers. The drivers will soon realize this and switches back to Uber. If Grab wish to continue retaining their driver,s they are going to have to consider subsidizing the drivers too, so Grab might end up losing double of triple their cash! The trick is for Uber and Grab to find the sweet spot, where they will spend enough to retain the optimum amount possible of drivers and passengers while keeping revenue as high as possible. I am sure they have the formula for it and working towards automating it. The battle continues, and whats more important is that I know what I want and I am getting the best bang for the buck from these two companies at the end of the day

Mind to share location where you experience long wait and high fare? This two usually correlates with each other highly. Even for Uber. But depends on location and time of day

Now, I understand this thread is for Grab/Uber promo codes...so why are some of you not posting stuff that is relevant?

Why whine about how it's unfair that Uber OR Grab is not giving you any more promo codes when their service is already DAMNED cheap, compared to the our red-and-white regulars?!?

Please man up, drivers need to earn their share too (and FYI, Uber drivers earn SOLELY from your fare, amid a 25% commission deduction back to Uber), and don't think about yourselves only. 

If it's not easy for them, why should it be EASY for you? Just be grateful as and when promo codes come? But don't treat it as an entitlement right, cuz it's not...it's a privilege! 

Last night around 10pm a 4 mins ride (1km) cost me RM10 after applying GRABTNG code, with reason of high demand. Grab has became a hungry crocodile lately.

A metered taxi won't cost that much since the fare is regulated (for 1km distance, before 12am).

It is time for relevant authorities come to the ground and work to regulate the private e-hailing service here.
