Even if supply and demand, i think rider should be informed first instead of sudden surge when i reached the destination. This happened to Uber only.

For example:
Trip to KL with promo code stated the fees as RM13.
When i reach KL (without jam and whatsoever), suddenly the driver charged RM37.

I am a frequent Grab & Uber rider. No matter whether there are increased of demand or what so, Uber should not suddenly surged the charge by 2.9x. I do understand that Uber rate is not fix especially if there is jam but I think using high demand, low supply as an explanation is totally ridiculous!

If the demand is high and supply is low, Uber should upfront increase the rate from RM13 to perhaps RM15-18...very unethical to suddenly charge more when the rider reached the destination.

Do you contacted Uber CS? Isnt this is day light robbery. I thought we as consumer agreed on the price displayed only to order the uber ride.

Let me guess...

U give the driver 1 star rating?
*
No, I haven't even rate yet but the receipt indicated surged of charge when i leave the vehicle. I pay by credit card, thus, I will only know the surge when i check again.

Does this mean when I do booking: No Surge.

Then jam during the trip until the Surge kicks in. I got wallet-shocked?

My trip was totally no jam. I would like to mention again, NO JAM at all.

what i usually do for Uber is...get a print screen of the agreed charge upon booking the ride. In almost all cases with Uber, the final fare is higher than the agreed fare. So, just have to feedback to Uber suport, and they will waive off the extra charges.

I did. I complaint about the sudden surge. Then they give all sort of reason which I think I am not interested. I just demand them to charge me as agreed "the price when i booked". Honestly, if there is a jam, I can accept if there is price deviation, but on that trip, no jam, nothing and the driver is using the same route as per any other drivers.

Uber did a reversion but my post is to alert rider that this happened. It happened twice to me. Both incident i complained and i got a reversion. Imagine if those did not check....putih putih pay more...

i totally agreed with your suggestion. I did that too. I questioned them why charge me so much when every of my trip to same location is only within the range of 13-18?

Proof is important

The promo code prompt more non-frequent user to use Uber and it churn up higher demand, that's where the surge come.

surge definitely got nothing to do with jam.
is supply vs demand.
surge is created when the demands for trips soar higher than usual.

For Uber, once u booked a ride during surge pricing (e.g. RM 10 instead of the non-surge pricing for RM 6), you should be charged RM 10 at the end of your trip. But, for some reason only known to Uber, they may charge you RM15. So, you'll need to check and contest the extra charges with Uber.

However, for Grab, once you have agreed on the RM 10, no matter how jam it is or how long the trip takes, you will still be charged RM 10.

That would've made Uber is a risky ride to take. Even if my ride is RM2 and it is a smooth traffic, then 3x surge (out of expectation) comes in during my trip to my destination to surprise me. bangwall.gif

You are right pal!!!!!! That's why, please check your final price if you are taking Uber. Book that time is RM13, pay that time, its RM37.

That's exactly happening to me. So, it is advisable to check your final price, if there is sudden surge, please lodge a complaint. Imagine, all this while, you agreed when booking that the price is RM13, suddenly reached destination, you need to pay RM37.....daylight robbery.....

and....why should I be charged extra when you don't have enough driver ke, high demand ke, cos, at the beginning, the cost was agreed.
