Even if supply and demand, i think rider should be informed first instead of sudden surge when i reached the destination. This happened to Uber only.

For example:
Trip to KL with promo code stated the fees as RM13.
When i reach KL (without jam and whatsoever), suddenly the driver charged RM37.

I am a frequent Grab & Uber rider. No matter whether there are increased of demand or what so, Uber should not suddenly surged the charge by 2.9x. I do understand that Uber rate is not fix especially if there is jam but I think using high demand, low supply as an explanation is totally ridiculous!

If the demand is high and supply is low, Uber should upfront increase the rate from RM13 to perhaps RM15-18...very unethical to suddenly charge more when the rider reached the destination.

Do you contacted Uber CS? Isnt this is day light robbery. I thought we as consumer agreed on the price displayed only to order the uber ride.

what i usually do for Uber is...get a print screen of the agreed charge upon booking the ride. In almost all cases with Uber, the final fare is higher than the agreed fare. So, just have to feedback to Uber suport, and they will waive off the extra charges.

surge is created when the demands for trips soar higher than usual.

But once u booked a ride b4 surge, the fare should not be based on surge rate right?

For Uber, once u booked a ride during surge pricing (e.g. RM 10 instead of the non-surge pricing for RM 6), you should be charged RM 10 at the end of your trip. But, for some reason only known to Uber, they may charge you RM15. So, you'll need to check and contest the extra charges with Uber.

However, for Grab, once you have agreed on the RM 10, no matter how jam it is or how long the trip takes, you will still be charged RM 10.

That would've made Uber is a risky ride to take. Even if my ride is RM2 and it is a smooth traffic, then 3x surge (out of expectation) comes in during my trip to my destination to surprise me.
