QUOTE(kuroneko0509 @ Oct 16 2017, 09:15 PM) from a IT background view, I wouldn't worry too much about itI don't connect to any public wifi anyway and it's very unlikely someone will be targeting your home wifi |

Most sites are on https anyway so unless you're running a local network I wouldn't be too worried about it. XD

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/neogaf-goe...against-founder
https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2017/10/neoga...ed-owner/42392/ http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2017/1...lt-allegations/ Happening as I type this right now, NeoGAF imploding and going down in flames right as this post is posted. Every single wrongdoing, sleazy practices including biasness of the moderators and admins exposed right to the very littlest details. "Airing dirty laundry" left and right, and #NeoGAF was trending at Top 10 on Twitter a while ago if your Twitter was set to the US region. https://nickmonroe.blog/2017/04/12/neogafs-...-in-moderation/ I can see similar traits, although in smaller scales here in this forum as well. EDIT: not specifically this section, but hints of it everywhere else with people drunk with moderating powers. It's the power of the people, you can slap a ban or a warning unjustly, and/or delete or cover it up, but the truth will out someday. And in the case of NeoGAF, imploding in such spectacular way LOL! The behaviour of the moderation and admin teams, sounds eerily similar. "We are GOD, never question our authority!", "Never go against the grain, never go against our chosen/preferred sentiment, never go against the mob mentality!" Or this one, warning, it's a bit long: All happening in the span of less than 5 hours. WOW! This post has been edited by stringfellow: Oct 22 2017, 01:31 PM |

Basically post only the right things, the right way, don't go against mods who practice their moderating duties in total biasness. Mods, admins are always right. They have the final say, they are Gods. The term "echochamber" and "hugbox" have been thrown around a lot when describing NeoGAF. Certain sections of LYN also applies to these terms, "echochamber" and "hugbox". Inb4 what is an echochamber or a hugbox. QUOTE hugbox Sounds like certain sections of the forum in LYN. A hugbox is a derogatory term for an environment, usually on the internet, in which a group with similar interests gathers to discuss topics in what they intend to be a safe, comforting, and confrontation-free environment. What they intend to be a "safe space" almost always turns into a circle-jerk of forced consensus and ends with every member repeatedly expressing the exact same opinion to each other, no matter the topic. Since the community is founded on unconditional love and support no matter how much of a tool a person is, these communities tend to attract tools and rational and useful advice is usually a rarity. Moderators of these groups are usually extremely militant and do not tolerate even the slightest dissenting opinion. Members of these groups are usually so hypersensitive that the moment a contrary opinion appears the entire community explodes in a total drama shitstorm. QUOTE echo chamber Those two terms perfectly describes certain forums, Facebook groups and Discord channels, where everything and everyone must agree 100% on how things are run, discuss, talked, mentioned, and no alternative opinions are allowed. Sounds like North Korea to me.A place free of serious debate where everyone repeats the same opinions, no one calls anyone else out, and criticism is frowned upon. When your own country is NeoGAF. Only difference is, the top guy embezzles instead of sexually harassing. They're both acting like they're Gods though.

Never used neogaf but I remember them banning an analyst from the site and prohibits anyone from posting his tweets about the videogame industry.

This.
https://nickmonroe.blog/2017/04/12/neogafs-...-in-moderation/ All the dirty laundry is in there. Neatly linked and screenshot before they deleted it, proofs gathered using Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Final moment of NeoGAF before it went down. https://twitter.com/Xbudz/status/922017197517455360 This post has been edited by stringfellow: Oct 22 2017, 04:33 PM |

QUOTE(andrewcha @ Oct 22 2017, 01:05 PM) It should go down. Neogaf is a huge ass gaming forum for more than a decade now. There are game devs or works in that industry that posts there. I've been an active member there. Community is good for the most part, but since the owner and some of its mods are predators, fuck them. I'm gonna miss it though, as I go there for gaming and non-gaming stuff. |
