Absolutely right!

PNB funds are political fund.

I think, many people see its positive side - a good rate with very low risk, and backing by government.

Unfortunately, the negative side not many people notice. It is hurting the country economy development in long term. Nation tends to be over passive in  investment. It is something like the basic pay of a salesman is too high - loosing motivation to look for sales.

"cukup makan" feeling demotivates us to look for better.

One of the best comment I've seen on this thread rclxms.gif

But really, it's a double edged sword isn't it. Do you hand hold them out of poverty or do you teach them how to fish?

It takes too long to see results, to educate retail investors to take calculated risks to gain reasonable returns... so this is a convenient solution

Most people are busy n exhausted putting food on the table n don't have much money left, so they are less likely to take risk. To them  ASx funds are actually godsend.
It will be a good idea to introduce investment knowledge as a s subject in secondary n tertiary institution instead of History(don't shoot me), which will come in handy in future.

So many people say that... but really, is that the most effective way?
I'm an accounting grad, financial management is one of the mandatory course, but most of my friends n colleagues in the profession have credit card debts, don't save enough, don't look into growing personal wealth although they are fantastic accountants

Would u say our education system failed us?
I don't think so... one of the reason I would attribute it to is what kpfun suggested... others may include, there are not enough urgency and culturally it's not something that people talk about openly

I am talking abt investment knowledge, not accounting or economics.

Aiyo boss.... accountants learn investments n finance theory in uni la... does accounting really just mean debit and credit to you? In fact macroeconomic theory is important to help us understand where interest rate is heading, where forex is heading and which asset to go for

Besides, knowing how to read financial statements is important for investors or financial analysts so there is a competitive edge for those in accounting/finance than those without... whether or not people use their professional skills in their personal life is a different story la cool2.gif

How many percent. If 2 or less than 2. I would say its worth.

Even if less than 2, wouldn't it make more sense to buy kenanga growth fund or east spring investment small cap since they significantly outperform ASG all the time?
