Hello, fellow forumers. Dell Inspiron 6400 user #98 from thread #3 reporting in. happy.gif Congrats on the new thread! BTW, merry Chistmas to all LYN forumers! laugh.gif

OK. Need an urgent reply for a very nooby question here. tongue.gif Does flashing the sys. BIOS req. / cause hard disk reformatting? Wanna reformat my 6400 immediately. I see the latest 1's ver. A12. Seems quite useful to remove a little more heat from the sys., even if it's only by a tad.

Also, should I format the drives as FAT / NTFS? Planning 1 partition for OS, another for installed prog.s & another for data storage. Which format should I assign them respectively?

Thanks in advance. cool.gif & try not to overdo on the Christmas cookies, y'all. Wouldn't wanna get jealous when y'all rant / spam about last night's gastronomous indulgence. laugh.gif

You can proceed to flash the system BIOS, doesn't require to reformat your laptop smile.gif

Bios flashing will not cause your hdd to be formatted.

If you plan to install Windows XP, use NTFS. Select the normal NTFS not the (Quick) Option.

Other partitions should also be NTFS.

Read about the benefits of NTFS here.

Hey guys, I contacted Dell, and i got a reply that only certain laptops can use DMD 3.0? How come?

Mine came with MD 2.0, so he say must use back 2.0. I thought latest version should also work on any 6400.

The fella con me is it? I thought of requesting for the latest disc.

I think during MD bootup, try to look at the top/bottom corner of the screen. Got version no. if not mistaken.

Hehe, bro. If dell finds out that you we do this. We're gonna get into trouble. It's considered piracy. tongue.gif

But it's a very tempting idea. icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm pretty sure MD3 can work on 6400 since I'm using it XD Just pester them a few times, I'm pretty sure they'll send you the MD 3 CD eventually..
