People are already selling the 40120 for RM75-85 out there now. I'm getting tired of how LEGO operates in this country. Only here we have to line up, book and beg to get the LEGO sets we want when it retails in shops.
*
Cannot blame LEGO ler, actually scalper-base is expanding. Back then not much people play LEGO even when 1st Shell release and all. The trend queue up trend came last year when t hanksgiving and halloween set started selling and next is bricktober.

QUOTE(blackamikaze @ Feb 2 2016, 10:14 AM)
based on what i read, this problem never happen until the lego shell promo, is it true?
*
more like when halloween and thanksgiving set release that timeline. wink.gif

QUOTE(blackamikaze @ Feb 2 2016, 10:56 AM)
well i hope this kind of trend will slow down somehow, i did saw same thing happen to transformers when the movie first come out, sudden surge of scalpers everywhere
*
this one will be few years down the road where every "investors" are throwing their stocks. Thanks to newspapers nowadays that like to take article from social media is encouraging more scalpers to join the market.

QUOTE(refnulf @ Feb 2 2016, 11:13 AM)
That's pretty much what I'm doing now. No longer chasing the previous releases (prices are too high). Just concentrate on the newer ones, unfortunately those are also an issue because LCS are releasing 10 sets on release, and then it takes forever to restock. Checked with San Diego Lego Store and they have 50 Ghostbusters Firehouse just sitting there. And they've had a constant supply of 40-50 units sitting there since release.

Scalpers charge RM200-300 the next day after they collect it and you either buy it for the ridiculous prices or hope you can find it from wherever else.
*
now is scalpers that creating demands for the market because every new exclusive release they go sapu all. Then collectors thought walan sibeh hot, then all keep race to put name on the next to be call list. so if not much restock are taking place you will continue have short of supply issue for exclusive set.

i dont agree.
lego, is meant for kids to play. NOT FOR ADULTS primarily. and the company is trying hard to get more outputs and products for kids. that is the reason why there are still plenty of city, ninjago, friends etc around. modulars and exclusive sets, are just a very proportion. it will definitely turn ugly if the company diverted the initial goal and comply to adults' greed. market will fill with tons of misb lego, and bubble will burst. yet another early 2000's lego story...

stop the greed. buy lego to play, and mainly for kids. this is what it should be.
after all, it is just a 'costly' plastic... (but i like)
*
adult fans is always there, those fan-base on the other side of the world is way bigger. They comes out with great MOC. But like what u said maybe LEGO is still focusing on the kids market instead of adult and that is why we have shortages on large exclusive sets which is good for the kids when they can get their Friends, City and Ninjago set.

Bubble burst when your economy is shitty. Otherwise it will get more and more expensive and in early 2000's is due to LEGO set are badly design and too much of a customize parts.

QUOTE(klthor @ Feb 2 2016, 11:39 AM)
it was meant for kids, but that was the past. if you study the history of modular series, it is more towards adults or teen. I doubt lego will flood the market with rare sets, the best strategy for branding is to keep a distance from your fan to reach.  else they wont have a section at LegoLand namely "hard to find", collectible would be still collectible if you can find them 24/7 at parkson/aeon?
*
LEGO set up so many brand stores across the globe, they definitely need to hold some specialty that only their shops has otherwise is hard for them to compete in the market.

The collectible market keeps Lego popular and running. The adult fans are the crazy ones buying the big sets and I can understand that to a point, but the way LEGO is running locally is a big problem. Exclusive sets are limited in number compared to the other countries that have majority of the stock.

Scalpers aside, there's got to be a way for legitimate builders to get access to the sets without having to pay RM200-300 extra (on top of the RM200-400 you paid for the currency mess).

Sure, people are still buying from the scalpers so they're never going to go away but I'm just ranting because I'm getting annoyed I can't get a set released a few weeks ago because they bring in 10 per shop and never restock again (for example).

Why the hell should I go to Singapore, or to Legoland only just for a chance to find something which should be available in every damn Lego store around? It's not retired, it's not limited in any way, it should be widely available. Could be that LCS itself is playing some game here, keeping sets in the store while only selling a few. Who knows?
*
I'm not sure about the one in KL though, as for Penang one, they have no choice but whatever sent to them from KL they just put up the shelf and hardly restock too. sad.gif

Currency might be one of the factor for restocking, is like doing loss business now as ringgit tumbles. . . . that might be the reason. Just saying.
