I previously taught it was Chelsea or MU.....  whistling.gif

Guess I am wrong.  tongue.gif

Well, Brendan Rodgers did say he had to discount himself (perhaps saving grace) because he was once a liverpool manager, and because the ManU vs LFC rivalry meant that there is no chance.

Chelseafc? maybe he submitted a resume already. we don't know. wink.gif

“A few teams in the world can think about winning the Europa League and I think we are one of these teams,” he said on his return to his homeland to face Augsburg.

“We don’t have to say ‘We have no chance’ but if you look at the teams in the competition now it is like a little Champions League.

“Sometimes you can look at winning a cup as the shortest way to get somewhere but for sure the Europa League is not the shortest way to get to the Champions League, it is a really hard race.

Its worth a shot. JK too said it.

..every avenue to get to the route to CL

and before anyone condemn klopp as becoming another cup specialist. go die la rolleyes.gif

Klopp is a realist. While he isn't discounting the league as possible, we depend a lot of 4-5 teams above us to fail, stumbling in form in the last 12 or so games, apart of us having to up our game & not drop points.

winning Europa cup or the attempt to win it will not be easy. but its a chance where it really need to win game & not wait for teams to drop points as in the league at this given stage.

Saw the highlights, despite augsburg fc being 14th in their league, they had good moments going forward.

Our Fwds looked blunt, also several good build up but lacked the finishing.

Mignolet concerns me, he has a habit of being on his knees (too soon) when opponents attack. Why Mig? 🙈🙈

“What happened is what had to happen. They promised me that if there was a good offer they’d release me because the club was in a process of disintegration.

But [then the club] didn’t always tell the truth; it’s the player whose image gets damaged, the same happened to Fernando [Torres], but things were clear: I never lied.

When Rafa [Benítez] went, they knew I’d leave. I felt the project was falling apart. Rafa had gone, there was no direction.”
Exactly. what happen to Mascherano, happened to Torres. However we still have LFC fans who says they left for (more) money (and only that).

What had transpired with these players began when the owners cut Rafa off, the team, the support and that had consequences to the team, squad strength and players minds.

It showed and it made it easy for the owners to sack Rafa.

No matter how shitty united have been they always seem to get a good result against liverpool...Hopefully it changes this time...

We weren't able to match Manu under Rodgers as we I believe Rodgers tried to implement all out attacking system but without able to match manu's deep pocket indulgence in flair footballers.

Yes, I reckon klopp will address that with a bit more pragmatic approach. I think we could.

The shitty thing is how the hell did they seem to amass so many young footballer with flair. They seem to have a factory production for that. The latest being that young chap who scored a couple in their last Europa game. Granted I do hope such players fade into obscurity for them. Like that one player macheda (dont know his actual name) who somewhat spoiled our title chances couple of seasons ago.

Compared to our players coming out from the ranks of the academy, haven't seen a player rise in ranks, esp an attacking forward and able to light a game or two.

I still cant forget how Gerrard get red card on his last appearance against MU . How in the world you tackle like that , it was like the fastest red card I ever seen coming out from subs . I keep thinking what the hell are you doing captain ..
*
I don't blame gerrard, every liverpool fan was at a boiling point watching a stupid clueless liverpool team being toyed like schoolboys by Manu prior to gerrard coming on. Every kopites wanted Liverpool players to "show up", "stand-in-toes" with manu that day, but they ran around like blind mice, clueless.

Worse Liverpool game i ever witness against manu. Absolute worse.

Any (real) liverpool player would have at least turn up for the match, Rodgers made a stupid error by not starting Gerrard. BIG mistake. Gerrard may no have the legs for 90mins but we would not have been toyed around had gerrard started AT least 45 mins (first half). Even before that crude tackle, everyone saw how incensed gerrard was.

It was a stupid line up that started against manu, no passion, no leadership at all. rudderless team. Only after the gerrards dismissal did the team momentaritly woke up. It's like a slap on the face, but it was too late.

Certain fans has criticised gerrard for that red, card. esp being a leader. I would have given the red card to every other liverpool player that day instead. Absolute shit performance.

At least Gerrard cared and wanted to stamp his mark which of course was too literal for the referee.

Klopp would have killed those players too that day had he witness it as the manager. but not rodgers whom probably praised the team for character. doh.gif

Weeeee... Anti-Klopp brigade has already appeared...

Honestly i'm actually amazed that we got to this final with such quality squad. Hats off for some work by klopp. It's not perfect. The there some hope we have a better believe. The league table don't lie, we bought average players with high price and this is as much as we can show so far.

Klopp is modest to say, he is still learning about the squad, and believe he can (still) work with the current batch.

Carra didn't mince his words that what he think the couple of players failed. And they should be sold (it is dead on the several players whom many here has pin pointed of not good enough compared to the players they replaced.

rafa did the same thing to hypia and handed the captaincy to gerrard but there are not a single player can match gerrard stature, so doing the same to hendo is extremely difficult and possibly wont happen in near future. i know hendo is not the best but looking at our team, there aren't many choice

lucas - he's near 30 and not a 1st team guarantee, hard choice
skrtel - 31 now and i think he no longer automatic choice given we now have so many CBs
milner - too new to be selected
coutinho - big issue with his consistency, and his tendency to shoot every given opportunity is very frustrating to watch. not suitable until he can grow more as a player

hendo is still the best option available due to his age and seniority in the team but for my personal choice, i would select lucas.
*
i agree there isn't any other player but if any player deserved that arm band (before henderson was given) it would have and should have been lucas

http://www.90min.com/posts/2994757-lucas-c...alf?a_aid=36569

but we all knew under Brendan Rodgers it was (senior) local lad < a priority, than a english lad (first), before any foreign player. that's how it works.

Sometimes it's not the paper but the person writing the article. Outside of Echo, King and Maddock are the somewhat credible ones. Of course the most trustworthy are still Tony Barrett and James Pearce of Echo who seem to agree that a summer overhaul is to be expected.
*
Summer overhaul is necessary. We been there before but it would be a slight relief, now it's Juergen Klopp (who we know know something about footballers) who has a say

Look at the damage the chosen one had done. No, no let's not sugar coat it by maybe it's TC to blame too.

Look at the early signings by Brendan. No seriously.

Fabio Borini, followed by Joe Allen, and the list goes on.
All the early signings had clearly some Rodgers wand in it cause they were under Rodgers before and or had gone under Rodgers radar prior to his managerial seat at Liverpool

The papers are now saying clearly Liverpool after the league cups defeat we lacked a leader, a big game changer.

Who were the ones who noticed this over 3seasons ago?

It's time to bring back gerrard...I reckon he could do a job for one more season...It seems unlikely that club will get in a top midfielder in the next transfer window...
*
Guess not, I think Gerrard too is considering time on his playing days and possibly looking into taking up his coaching licenses. or perhaps one last ditch and grab the mother of all mother in the Chinese league (I think he did say that in scouse humour but the papers will write that he may further his playing days by joining that money league.

Klopp will probably use his persuasions to sign better players in key position that we dearly need. (I hope)

We need a new captain, Hendo dun command the game changer status.

Lucas ?  or get an outsider ?
*
By installing Henderson, any current Liverpool players forfeits their right. Gentleman agreement

Unless Henderson leaves Liverpool (possibly zero chance for now). Henderson will be around until his contract ends and if only the "extension" will determine if Henderson wants to stay or leave.

Lucas suffered a muscular injury when taking the penalty and will likely to miss the match tonight which leaves us with only Kolo and Caulker in center defence depending on how Mama is coping with his concussion.

Aguero and Sterling's pace will eat Kolo and Caulker alive.

Sakho should return. I'm sure the scan n a rest helps. If Sakho is ruled out for city game for that head clash in the final, then I'm worried. For sakho, and lfc

Hendo is appointed the captain just becoz he has British Blood.

So is Milner.

Leadership wise he is nowhere near the past Liverpool captains.

[cough] just below jaime redknapp whistling.gif

not in the same league as gerrard, souness, daglish, hansen, Hypia...

Lad has much to live up too, but like i said, he may find a wind under klopp. He is still 'young', not as strong & tough as souness, nor naturel leader like Hypia or multi talented like gerrard.

Exceptional talent, he almost threw it all away if not for houlliers advice when Gerrard had trouble mixing with the wrong local crowds.

But looking back, how much Gerrard was to the team, and it was only under Rafa did the whole Liverpool team looked more respectable and feared in europe.

And we have local Kopites calling Gerrard a fraud, only knows Hollywood passes 🙄

Sigh

but I wondered why kompany moved to allow the shot past him for goal

I haven't checked the other front runners, it seems all lost except Manu. Good that we can catch some grounds, we been stumbling previously & it wasn't pleasing

We are 8th in the league, and it's 5 points behind West Ham who is 6th.

We need them to drop more points, and only then we could consider in for a chase for the remote chance in the running for 4th.

Currently both Manchester clubs are fighting there. (4&5 on 6 points ahead of us) tough to see 2 successive losses at least and we don't drop points. Uphill task

Those who were slagging off Firminho early in the season

7 goals and 7 assists so far

6 goals and 4 assists in the last 11 games.
*
And Brendan didn't think he will suit liverpool's tiki taka. Wasn't his preferred choice player if he had it that way.

Granted the early days most said firmino only look good on you tube but seems out of sorts in the possession game
