Yes, however the first step (GSpot) is necessary to see if you have the proper codecs installed. Just use tmpgenc. Refer to the guide below: http://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

| QUOTE (navilink @ May 5 2004, 11:00 AM) | Well thanks there...I got TMPGEnc but dunno got such function!
Well is it really they can convert any AVI format (eg DivX, XviD) to VCD format? (in .dat rite?). If my AVI file is ~700MB can it fit into a CD-R? or 2 CD-Rs?
Well, is this software, avi2vcd good? Looks simple, quality wise? http://www.videohelp.com/sefy/?id=encoding12.html |
Yes, and no. Yes, can convert almost any AVI format; no because an 80min CD can hold up to 80 minutes of VCD. So, if your source is longer than that, you have to cut it. VCD specifications linkAs for avi2vcd, I don't know. I don't use that program. Why don't you try it and compare with tmpgenc and other encoders?

Found this link, dunno how good it is since I don't deal with realmedia. There's a trial version, I don't know what are the limitations though. Try it out and let us all know. http://www.witcobber.com/

| QUOTE (vexus @ Jul 10 2004, 08:58 PM) | VCD-PAL and VCD-NTSC which one suit our country vcd player n tv
frame rate 30 or 25 ???
which one better. |
Our country (Malaysia) uses PAL format; 25fps. 99.9% of all our VCD players/TVs can play both NTSC/PAL (plus that weird SECAM) formats.
Stick with your source video. PAL if it's PAL, NTSC if it's NTSC. Doing framerate conversion might make your video look bad.

| QUOTE (vexus @ Jul 11 2004, 01:46 PM) | v-cam recorder record at what fps ???
i record the v-cam movie into my pc using xpert dvd maker usb 2.0 into vcd format, the movie abit lag. So which FPS setting should i use to make it move smooth 23 or 30 fps?? |
If you bought the vcam locally, it should be PAL (25 fps).
Don't record straight to VCD. Record uncompressed (or whatever codec that uses very low CPU power) and then convert to VCD. I don't know if it's possible with that device you're using.

default is better quality.. |
If you tried "better quality" and it's already crappy, imagine how bad the "lower cpu usage" option is.
You could try recording a different format first, then convert to vcd. I think the device allows mpeg-2 as well, right?
Or, you could try and look for other software that can support that device that allows different codecs.

| QUOTE (momusu @ Jul 13 2004, 11:27 AM) | | really? i thought 'lower cpu usage means it will encode slower as not to bogs down the whole system? |
The answer is in your reply itself. If you "encode slower", you take more time and shouldn't be a problem if you're only encoding, but in this case he is doing a real-time capturing/encoding. To capture with lower cpu usage, it either needs to drop frames (jerky motion) or lower the quality. That's why I told him to record uncompressed or use codecs that consume low cpu power and convert afterwards.

| QUOTE (X10A Freedom @ Jul 21 2004, 05:55 PM) | some question here, i converted an AVI file to SVCD format(mpeg) i used DVD2SVCD program to convert which uses Cinema Craft Encoder SP but after converting, i have a Cinema Craft Encoder logo at the bottom right of my screen which is quiet annoying because it's blocking the sub-titles i went and check Cinema Craft Encoder to see whether i can disable the logo, but to my surprise, there isn't any option to disable it can anyone help me out on this matter? |
You are using a demo/trial version of CCE. Go and purchase it. Other alternative is to use tmpgenc 2.xx which works with DVD2SVCD. 30-day trial for mpeg2 and doesn't leave watermarks on the encoded video. http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html

| QUOTE (-=Axis=- @ Jul 23 2004, 07:00 AM) | i have a file format question here:
i am using nero burning tool. i have some mpeg, avi. when i wanna burn then into vcd, nero will need to encode the file into a certain format before burning. the process is so slow (for 400MB, it takes around 60-90 minutes).
may i know what is that default format? so that i can encode it using a faster program and straight away burn it into vcd.
thanks a lot |
Quick answer: http://www.videohelp.com/vcdYou can use tmpgenc (freeware) to encode to mpeg-1 vcd format. Get it at http://www.tmpgenc.net/Also, please take note that nero's encoding engine sucks. It works, but the quality is crap most of the time.

| QUOTE (-=Axis=- @ Jul 23 2004, 10:02 AM) | thank you d3x
it works! just that it takes kinda long time too better than nero of course.
is that any proggie out there can do it faster? (with no or minimum audio/video quality lost) |
There's always a trade-off between fast encoding vs quality encoding. You just need to find the sweet spot that balances both nicely (unless you want ultimate quality or speed). If you didn't know already, play around with the Motion search precision in the video tab in the settings menu in tmpgenc (Other Settings menu if you use the wizard). I use Canopus Procoder as well, and speed-wise it's about the same as tmpgenc. However, the best setting (mastering quality) takes a lot longer but produces better results. The only other sure way to speed up encoding that I can think of is to upgrade your CPU. Or just go find something to do when you encode.

| QUOTE (how1984 @ Aug 5 2004, 06:38 PM) | hai.
i wanna ask that is it possible for me to convert some of te vcd songs to cd or somesort like mp3?
and is there any converter that can convert rmvb to avi? or mpeg? coz i wanna burn it out as a vcd
by the way..what is the different btw svcd and vcd?
thanks |
1. vcd songs to cd/mp3 - Open each track in virtualdub and save as wave files. - Convert wave files to mp3 or burn as cd audio. 2. rmvb to avi - use EO Video. Read first post on where to get it. - There are possibly other solutions, just read through the posts. 3. SVCD vs VCD - http://www.videohelp.com/svcd- http://www.videohelp.com/vcd

| QUOTE (F33L3Lik3Hom3 @ Aug 9 2004, 08:41 PM) | Any encoder where I can encode a video format to various video format like VCD, SVCD and DVD ?
Any encoder that can convert the sound of video into Mp3 ? |
TMPGEnc can encode to VCD/SVCD/DVD. the downloadable version is available at http://www.tmgpenc.netThere are other commercial software you can use, such as Canopus ProCoder and CinemaCraft Encoder. Usually, to convert the sound from video to mp3, you'll have to extract the audio first. Use Virtualdub to do the extraction and then use whatever mp3 encoding software you're comfortable with. Some forumers use LAME Encoder, find the link in previous posts. | QUOTE (boon77) | hi everyone.... may i noe how to convert .OGG to audio CD?????? |

| QUOTE (navilink @ Sep 2 2004, 11:33 AM) | I'm having problem with burning some music videos into CD viewable by VCD player...especially MTVs from Kobra or Zone Production... When I ENCODE and burn to CD using Nero 5.5 and view it on VCD, the MTV is playing very very slow...like Matrix effect
Some other MTVs (not from Kobra or Zone) are OK...
Anyone knows why? the encoding of Nero? |
Most probably. Try using tmpgenc or other encoders and see if you have problems with it then.
It could also be the source file, so check your decoders.
