whatsapp backup

guys , i wanna format my phone . I have already backup and archived the chat history . I'm wondering where doe sthe phone store the chat history ? I have uploaded the chat history to Google Drive and archived it . I opened the whatsapp→ databases folder and see , i found that there' re several files , one of itis with the name of msg-store-2016-01-20.db.crypt8 , is this the backup chat history ? btw , it's only 3.8MB ?
How to restore the chat history after that ?
Shoudl I transfer the chat history to external memory ?

any idea about wechat ? the chat history backup feature is gone... Now the feature called chat log migration ? But , taht feature is for migrate the chat history to another phone . right ? I just wanna format my phone and restore the msg , how to do that ?

just format and signin ur google account and install whatsapp... during login whatsapp you will prompt to restore data from google drive...

For now you can backup your whatsapp chat history and all to your Google Account.

Oh my! always try local storage backup & restore if possible (For me just much more quicker since dont have to upload so much MBs/Gbs to cloud . if u have local phone storage backup , after move the "whatsapp" folder in it , try restart then only fresh setup new whatsapp . it shud prompt restore option by now .

sorry for hijacking bro. I used a meizu note 2 and unfortunately it is does not sync well with google so no google drive back up for my whatsapp message. Recently bought a new phone and since google drive is not available, i had to use the old method i.e transferring the back up from internal storage into sd card but i had a problem. When installing whatsapp to the new phone, it couldn't detect the back up and so it could not be restored to my new phone. I've tried installing a few times but still the same. By right, it should have given me an option to restore form the back up upon installing. Anybody know how to resolve this? Need help from experts here. Thanks.
