Hi Everyone, I have bought a new house with status 25% completed only. Expected time to complete on Apr 2017. But, yesterday I have received bill from pejabat tanah to charge me cukai tanah for 2016. So, do I need to pay ??

Since the land already transferred to your name, it doesn't matter whether the house completed or not. You have to pay. That's why it is called cukai tanah, not cukai rumah. ada tanah, ada cukai.

u bought new house on new tanah or the tanah is already previously originally yours, only the house is new?
if both the tanah and the house is new, just 25% finish, then its pemaju la..not u...
else if u bought tanah 1st, then call contractor help build rumah, then u need to pay..

Hahahahhaha, nope.... they are wrong.... I know this coz I'm working in Land Office. Owh, another thing is, in National Land Code, anything on the land is considered as land too. You bought house that float eh? Once your name is in the land title, you're responsible to pay the quit rent.... no matter whether the house have been built or not....

There's no 2 ways about it. Quit Rent is like what it says, a rent. Eventhough it says "freehold", the land isn't technically free because it still belongs to the state and you are renting from the Sultan/King. If you are still in doubt, have your solicitor conduct a land search or you can conduct a land search yourself at the relevant land authority and the land search report should reveal that you are the registered owner.
