You can start smiling if it doesnt go up but dont hope for it to come down. Everything up and car goes down? What are the odds man, compared to petrol, ciggy, liquor, toll, electricity, etc.

very true.....anyway just my 2 cents.....

prices of car going down means that worse sales for proton unless they reduce their car price too which is unlikely......

no way the government will allow proton to die......the only way proton will survive is other car is more expensive than proton......so the least is the car prices will not change much and hope for no price increase......

why I say this is the only way proton will survive, even with VW joining in the bandwagon, no way there will be a turnaround fast enough to increase sales/quality drastically in 1 year....only with better quality and designs can proton gain more customers' confidence and sales...........it takes more time.....so until that happens, no way that prices of car will be going down.

2) annual road tax

If you can wait until March or April 2007, then its ok. Because the manufacturer will produce the car by then. They will still sell those 2006 car til march or april =).

But, the problem is ur current car trade-in value will also drop at the same time. So how... a Malaysian car buyer is always in a lose-lose situation.

i believe they are refering to "1) import tax". but not sure if that is the right term anymore as the locally assembled/manufactured cars also got tax.

that is true. i have given up buying new cars already. if i want a car, will hunt for 2nd hand cars in the range of 1 year - 2 years. save a lot from buying new car. yes a bit difficult to find a good condition one, so just have to be patient. of course you need to have a lot of time and hopefully have enough knowlegde on how to value/judge a car's condition, else need to bring a friend expert along during survey.

Tester, I wish I hv ur know-how when it comes to judge a gd 2ndhand car. I also wish that I could buy a car that I currently wanted (2ndhand only at my current budget) but the problem is dunno how the car's condition.

Not an expert esp, on car's engine, so dunno whether gd or bad or whatever just based on what I hear fr the engine sound.

What if people don't buy car at all ( Total economy recession), be it Proton or other imported marques. I'm sure they are struggling like hell pushing up the sales. I never expect the price will go down absurdly, but I'm sure the potential buyer will get attractive package or lower interest rates.

Car prices will never go down because duty import on foreign-made cars is one of the major income source for our country.

if there is any increases, they would've said it in the budget2007 already.

i don't see any significant increase in prices... but i do believe some companies will take advantage and increase slightly because of some new models being introduced.

fyi, proton sales has slowed down significantly the past 2 years. they better lower the prices, otherwise, it's bad for them. consumer nowadays are very picky. wink.gif

I heard from a friend of mine who happens to be a sales car dealer, car prices will be dropping next year. For proton the discount, they maybe give you another RM2k discount

No they will not announce it at the Budget. Any tax changes for imported/local cars are always announced last minute to prevent any panic selling/buying/stalling that might happen. And since car purchase is based on the year, it is prudent that they announce it only at the beginning of the year. This has been the practice for the last few years when the tax structure kept changing.

dont hope 4 any price changes in cars, coz im pretty sure they arent gonna have any..

if u need a car, n u have the money, juz buy now.. i dont think theyll be any difference if u buy now or later..

only thing is, if u could wait, better wait til next yr.. coz eventhough its juz one day gap, 31st dec 2006 n 1st jan 2007, the former will still be considered 2006 n the latter 2007.. thus, difference in 2nd hand value when the time comes 2 sell it back later..
