I had alot of problems with my Sony Vaio running Hardy Heron.. Bought it a year ago, 1.66ghz C2D with the Intel 3945ABG, wireless and everything works fine (nm-applet) with Hardy but the main problem is with the BIOS that Sony laptops use. There's a bug report somewhere on the Ubuntu bugtracker regarding ACPI issues with Vaio laptops, I can't pull up the link but I remember everyone who had a Vaio (not model specific) were complaining about boot problems. Removing the 'quiet' and 'splash' tags from the GRUB menu would help with the problem but occasionally it would still freeze at boot I experienced it myself too, ACPI would 'timeout' randomly during boot and freeze the whole process.. forcing the user to manually restart the laptop a few times by holding down the power button.
