Can I actually buy electronics from TaoBao and ship it to Malaysia without my stuff being detained?

Try source from local shops first. Like KL will be the famous jalan Pasar.

I don't think you will have issue with small electronic items. I bought many electronic item from ebay, aliexpress, fasttech etc. All are safely arrived.
