 UNIFI30 night stability issues due to router, Change router seems to help

I feel like this issue deserves a dedicated thread. Had UNIFI for a few months already and had no problems at all. Then about 1 month ago my connection starts to go haywire at night. I brushed it off as something temporarily caused by maintenance or something (there was a letter about some maintenance). One month later and still happening and getting even worst.

Downloading and browsing slightly slower but nothing major but other activities like online gaming and even VOIP are severely affected. Currently actively engaging with a TM tech person regarding this and will update accordingly.
Tech guy came over and made some changes on my gateway 'port' and asked me to try again. Nothing changed. He suggested that it might be router problem as I also heard from other people saying changing their router helped.

If anyone has managed to solve this issue, please share your experience!

13/1 Edit: A friend had this problem 'fixed' by changing his router. Will confirm further. Tech guy contacted again and he said it is now a 'known problem' and will get back to me. Will be rerouted to a 'TM engineer'

14/1 Edit: It's confirmed that the issue has been resolved for my friend after he changed the router. Will test further on my side today before I will proceed to buy a replacement too

18/1 Edit: My friend that had his problem resolved is using a not so high end Asus N12 router. TM engineer who is using VIP10 with stock router does not have this issue. I still have this issue but recently I've seen 'some' improvements for my side (Kuching)

Personal theory on why this is happening
Short version: The router provided by TM is so lousy (TM tech: specs are below minimum for fiber optics)
Long version: The router fails to cope with a more congested/stressed fiber optical signal which is clearly evident during peak hours that your connection gets 'flooded'/over buffered/bufferfloat to the point where your connection stability degrades. In other words, your router is bottle-neck(ing) what is otherwise a really fast and stable connection. A better router that has a much better specification are able to handle this amount of stress and therefore would result in a more stable connection overall. This is made even worst due to the sudden influx of subscribers to the UNIFI30 package

I usually get the 60.5*.*.* or similar IP pool. Today I have 1.3*.*.* and so far everything looks OK. Can anyone else confirm?

Confirmed with my friend regarding this. He had the same issue as me then he changed his router and the issue is gone for him. I personally have not bought a new router yet so I can't confirm

Looks like both Asus RT-N12D1 or RT-N12HP can support UNIFI. If you want to have proper stable Wi-Fi at your whole house should consider the RT-N12HP since the 9dbi high gain antennas really helps. Will confirm the model my friend is using when I can

Anyone facing the same problem here? Is there any way to solve this issue.

the ping test is done around 11pm with stock router? should consider using torrent since Unifi doesn't throttle it for downloading unlike Streamyx. Will try to test when I can

sorry forgot to get back to you. Clicknupload gave me about 1.5MBps while torrent easily full speed at peak hour
