I feel like this issue deserves a dedicated thread. Had UNIFI for a few months already and had no problems at all. Then about 1 month ago my connection starts to go haywire at night. I brushed it off as something temporarily caused by maintenance or something (there was a letter about some maintenance). One month later and still happening and getting even worst.

Downloading and browsing slightly slower but nothing major but other activities like online gaming and even VOIP are severely affected. Currently actively engaging with a TM tech person regarding this and will update accordingly.
Tech guy came over and made some changes on my gateway 'port' and asked me to try again. Nothing changed. He suggested that it might be router problem as I also heard from other people saying changing their router helped.

If anyone has managed to solve this issue, please share your experience!

13/1 Edit: A friend had this problem 'fixed' by changing his router. Will confirm further. Tech guy contacted again and he said it is now a 'known problem' and will get back to me. Will be rerouted to a 'TM engineer'

14/1 Edit: It's confirmed that the issue has been resolved for my friend after he changed the router. Will test further on my side today before I will proceed to buy a replacement too

18/1 Edit: My friend that had his problem resolved is using a not so high end Asus N12 router. TM engineer who is using VIP10 with stock router does not have this issue. I still have this issue but recently I've seen 'some' improvements for my side (Kuching)

Personal theory on why this is happening
Short version: The router provided by TM is so lousy (TM tech: specs are below minimum for fiber optics)
Long version: The router fails to cope with a more congested/stressed fiber optical signal which is clearly evident during peak hours that your connection gets 'flooded'/over buffered/bufferfloat to the point where your connection stability degrades. In other words, your router is bottle-neck(ing) what is otherwise a really fast and stable connection. A better router that has a much better specification are able to handle this amount of stress and therefore would result in a more stable connection overall. This is made even worst due to the sudden influx of subscribers to the UNIFI30 package

It's been happening to me in Sungai Buloh area as well. For me daytime is ok but during the afternoon onwards there will be slowdowns when browsing and with some downloads. Currently on the 30MBps plan.

At night, TM tends to QoS certain border router connections to the death.

I got around 40ms in-game ping at daytime. But at nighttime, I got around 100ms in-game ping. Anyone know why like this? I'm using stock router with LAN connection.

Same, there are sudden drops on connection on nighttime (most often), and limited connection speed during late morning (9-11am) (seldom occurrences)

it's confirmed that the issue has been 'mostly' resolved for my friend after he changed the router. Will test further on my side today before I will proceed to buy a replacement too

this is from him at 11pm last night:

I usually get the 60.5*.*.* or similar IP pool. Today I have 1.3*.*.* and so far everything looks OK. Can anyone else confirm?

Did you mean in-game ping will be better after changing to another router? If so, How's your in-game ping recently? FYI, I'm using stock router.

I can't stand their shitty routing service that has been plaguing me for months. My ping to S.Korea servers have spiked up from 200+ms to over 400, and I have to rely on a VPN to retain the former readings.

Also using the stock router. I'm planning to change it since I've read lots of bad reviews about it.

Is there anything we can do for their routing service?

I'm an IT technical person but not into network. This is my suspicion (I don't have any other way to explain this):

To put it as bluntly short as humanly possible, the router provided by TM is so lousy (TM tech: specs are below minimum for fiber optics)

Do you know what model of Asus N12 router is your friend using? Asus RT-N12D1 or RT-N12HP? I don't know which one to buy to be placed downstairs for upstairs Wi-Fi coverage.

I just upgrade my internet from streamyx 8Mbps to Unifi 30 Mbps 2 days ago. Attached picture my ping status.
Attached Image

I notice my download from website clicknupload.me, uploadable.ch & uploadrocket.net very slow compare to when I'm using streamyx.

Before this, I manage to get decent speed almost 1MBps but after upgrade, speed no more than 150KBps. I downloaded youtube video using IDM with 8 connection can easily get almost 3~3.8MBps.

Anyone facing the same problem here? Is there any way to solve this issue.

Looks like both Asus RT-N12D1 or RT-N12HP can support UNIFI. If you want to have proper stable Wi-Fi at your whole house should consider the RT-N12HP since the 9dbi high gain antennas really helps. Will confirm the model my friend is using when I can

the ping test is done around 11pm with stock router? should consider using torrent since Unifi doesn't throttle it for downloading unlike Streamyx. Will try to test when I can

Yes, ping time around 11pm using stock router. I haven't try download from torrent and will update download speed using torrent later. I prefer to use direct download.

Just want to clarify further regarding your experiment, do you mean that the router or the BTU unit that is the bottle neck? Because from my understanding is that the BTU is actually doing the signal conversion from "fiber optics" to give us "connection to the internet"; and that the router is just distributing the internet connection.

In other words, would the router's performance affect fiber optic signal stability?

Please correct me if i am wrong. notworthy.gif

Just want to share my personal experience.

I am maintaining the internet connection for some student hostel. As you know, most students are heavy user.

I am using OpenWRT with SQM configured. The difference is day and night when SQM is disabled. Skype calls are much smoother when SQM is enabled. It is more effective than traditional QoS which require a lot of setting up. I just leave SQM to default and everything just work.

The ONU TM provide is fine since not much is done on that equipment. The router TM provide is alright for light to moderate usage. Anything more, I will get a better equipment.
