Guys, im using an electric grinder. How often do i need to clean it? Do i need to clean it everytime i use it? since there will be retention on the burrs, if i just leave it will it make my next grounds taste stale?
*
i clean it once a month..or after i used 1kg of beans...
also..i usually purge a little bit before dosing for my shot..how much to purge depends on your grinder..

Thanks, first time hearing about that grinder. Do you know where I can buy it?
So many new terminologies haha. I just learned about single dosing and retention after reading your post. Counter space will be an issue for me, so thanks for pointing that out.

Got mine after 1 month wait. Pre order at Jcoffee. Mine fitted with ssp burrs and david have done calibration on it already. I recheck the burr alignment with marker and it is aligned perfectly..

I'm using 1Zpresso JX pro hand grinder.
Can say is zero retention.
I use the brush and clean off any coffee grinds after every use.

Now I even roast my own coffee beans biggrin.gif
Freshly roasted freshly ground. Can't get any fresher than that laugh.gif

Sometime too fresh is not good..
Even some of my fav v60 beans usually i aged it to 3 weeks

Anyone tried WPM ZD-17N grinder? I just bought CRM3605, and I watched a few videos on Youtube of people using it with CRM3605, so I guess it can do espresso. I was thinking of buying DF64, but the preorder wait is just too long, so thinking of getting this one instead.
*
I avoid the wpm zd17 mostly because the retention.. It is too much.. Have to purge 6-8gm before i start grinding for my espresso

I usually let it rest 1 week.
Most common recommendation is to let freshly roasted coffee beans rest 5 to 14 days.
*
For espresso i can start brew as early as 4 days..
But for filter atleast a week

QUOTE(imnotabot @ Aug 24 2021, 03:33 AM)
Thanks for the input. You mean you have to purge 6-8gm every day? Or when you change grind settings? I'm not that familiar with grinders as this will be my first grinder.
*
6-8gm every day or when i leave the grinder for 4 to 5 hour not in use

Hi guys,

I am planning to buy my first home espresso machine and grinder.

For espresso machine, currently I am considering the following model (Budget below RM3000):
1) WPM KD-210S2
2) WPM KD-270S
3) Gemilai 3200D

There is few question I would like to ask regarding to espresso machine:
1) Based on my own survey between KD-210S and KD-270S, the difference are KD-270S had milk temperature gauge and there is 3 Pre-infusion programs. Is it worth the additional RM 500 for this features?
2) KD-210S and KD-270S are both using twin thermoblock while 3200D was using duel boiler. May I know will there be difference in the quality of espresso and milk frothing?
3) Does anyone know who long does it that for Gemilai 3200D to start up and heat up before ready to pull a shot?

For grinder, currently I am considering (Budget below RM1500):
1) DF64
2) WPM KD-17N
3) Baratza Sette 30

There is few question I would like to ask regarding to grinder:
1) Does anyone know which is better between DF64, KD-17N and Baratza Sette 30 in term of maintenance and quality of grinding?

Thanks

quite some time i have been here..glad to see the thread is growing well.
i would recommend the 3200D and DF64 combo..the thermoblock steaming power is too underpower for me..
but they heat up fast (3200D take some time to heat up)
as for the grinder..single dosing grinder is the best for home use.
the sette 30 lack the micro adjustment that u need for espresso

thanks..i gotten myself a df64 for espresso shot..but now hunting one for camping use..haha
i saw alot different brands in TB...some brands have different conical burr options...5,6,7 teeth..
the more the better?
*
not really,it all up to burr design..but for camping pour over..timemore c2 is the best bang for your buck
some burr design provide better grind uniformity on finer grinds..
but for pour over timemore c2 already enuff imho..got extra cash go for c2..got better taste..
btw,which burr on df64?

Anyone tried mixing 2 diff brands of beans, arabica + robusta? Haha some how taste wonderful ,so far tried robusta mister coffee + SOL Eclipse
*
if commercial coffee beans, usual blend is 80% arabica and 20% robusta..or some go 70:30..
depends on how you would like your coffee.

for today..i,m doing an experiment.

Bentwood 63 vertical coffee Grinder VS DF64 with 64mm SSP MP burss
a RM14k grinder VS RM2k grinder
will be measuring the extraction yield and sugar content(Brix %) on each espresso
for now i will go for 20gm in,30-32gm out in 27-30 sec. Temperature will be set at 93c.
will be using medium roasted Single Origin Guatemala antigua Washed process. Roasted by Port Coffee Roastery 3 weeks ago.
