I saw several roasters there, Roast Things, Collective but none of their beans were on offer. Some gave freebies, some gave free taste tests, but the prices were equivalent to what you'd pay on beanshipper.

I just noticed that Coffee Sessions with their Slayer machine and fantastic home made pastries has closed down. Oh well...

Not only that, I was appalled at how dirty the portafilter was at CBTL (the one in KLIA at least), huge turn off for me.

I no longer go for coffee based drinks if I'm forced to go to CBTL/Starbucks, only chai latte at CBTL (which is as good as I can make it at home).

The Baratza Encore burr holder is designed to break, especially if you like light/medium roasted beans. I contacted Baratza and they sent me 3 for free from the US.

And no, I don't check the beans, a bit hard to do when you get a lot

Emailed them, they emailed back. I scanned a copy of the under warranty Encore and they just sent the 3 across. Took about 1+ weeks to arrive.

Try it, doesn't cost anything. You can try calling too but I'm too lazy to talk on the phone. Baratza support is superb IMO

I had my Encore for about 1 year I think before upgrading to the Mignon. I broke 2 in that time, still had 2 spare which I gave to the new buyer when I sold off the Encore. I started realizing the problem after I noticed that the grind quality was inconsistent which is why I emailed Baratza to begin with. I used the Encore for espresso so it was a lot more sensitive to grind quality.

You got the youtube video already, same one I watched before. RM28 (US$6-7) is not so bad.

I don't think I drink enough coffee to warrant a burr replacement on the Mignon (yet) but from what I can see that's the only part that would wear out . Replacements are available online

There are plenty of roasters in Selangor, have you tried google or any other search engine?

I think this is a fantastic idea. Count me in if anyone starts this.

I go through 1kg in about 2+ weeks (about 4 lattes per day) which is not ideal but I've lived with it for the past year or so. The coffee arrives within 1-2 days of roasting so a bit too early, and by the time I finish it, it's past the peak.

The ideal for me would be 500g every week.

Haha ok let me clarify. 4 lattes per day between myself and the wife, 1 each in the early morning before I leave for work and late afternoon after I come back. So in general two cuppas per day per person.

I don't pay attention as much about the caffeine intake, more so on the milk intake as someone else mentioned. Since I love overdosing my lattes, that's something like 220ml of milk per day for me alone, not helping in my aim to reduce sugar/fat intake...

Lots of feedback already from the more experienced folks here. I'll just add a bit more for comparison. I bought my BES920 about 1.5 years ago for RM4,500. The Oscar 2 was just starting to trickle into Malaysia back then also at around RM4,500.

If you're set on the BES920 then look up iamsobloodysick in the garage sales, he has a retail outlet in Kajang where I picked up my BES920 so you can negotiate the price separately. At today's RM6k asking price for the BES920 though I wouldn't think twice about getting the Oscar instead. You could fly to Perth, buy the BES920+grinder (usually on sale for ~A$1k) and still save a few thousand RM.

I guess in a way beanshipper is the consolidator of all the roasters out there, allowing them to reach a bigger audience. If anything I'd like to see more roasters on the beanshipper menu so that I don't have to buy from too many different places I am more than happy to support the Malaysian roasters out there

After almost exactly 3 years, my Eureka Mignon grinder decided to die on me. I think it's the motor, it'll start for a second or two and stop. Definitely not clogged, I've cleaned it out and it's the same. Thankfully I still have my Hario and a fresh bag if yirgacheffe from ymeng85. The hario is not good enough for my latte but I'll survive for the next few days while I decide what next.

Suggestions on where to send for repair? I'm wondering how much it'll cost if I have to replace the motor...

I do a little bit more, 1kg in about 23-24 days usually. Me and the wife drinking usually twice a day.

There was some warning, a few days ago the motor would suddenly die in the middle of a timed grind, but I would restart grinding and it worked again as usual. Today though, it worked for maybe 3 seconds then died completely.

I used to have an Encore, definitely not good enough for espresso if that's what you're aiming for. For around RM1,500 the new Sette 30 should be on your list. I personally went with the Eureka Mignon, a bit higher but very well made and consistent.

Mine was from Papa Palheta. Website says there's no stock though...

You can use the WDT, works reasonably well for me with the Eureka. I really like the Eureka's build quality even though Baratza has some fantastic service people. I had a Baratza Encore previously before upgrading to the Mignon.
