QUOTE(lowkl @ Aug 28 2016, 06:10 PM) Forgive me for being naive, but how much better are these dedicated descaling products better than simple citric acid which we can get from the local baking goods store for a couple of ringgit?? Excellent question, I don't know. What I understand is that descaling and cleaning are separate things. I personally don't use descaling products, only Cafiza so far which is a detergent and washes away coffee residue.

QUOTE(Dan430 @ Aug 30 2016, 08:19 PM) Breville users for your info if you don't already know you can get more info and tips from the internet but in UK and i think USA its also known as SAGE. so SAGE = Breville. Thanks Dan, but it's called SAGE only in the UK. There's a sizeable Breville community in the US, no name change there. I'm personally using a dual boiler 920 myself and am loving it!

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Sep 4 2016, 02:19 AM) oh.. u can find nice Italian brands on (lelit/Isomac) https://my.carousell.com/p/44245778/?rank=61if u just testing water, can get used one and not blow too much money I've seen that ID on carousell (crosbyalex84) selling espresso machines for IMO super low prices, and he's has zero ratings as a seller. Have you bought something from him before? This post has been edited by tishaban: Sep 4 2016, 07:41 AM

QUOTE(steven_phs @ Sep 13 2016, 05:23 PM) Hi guys, i am looking on Breville BES920 machine. Any users out there can feedback on how this machine is working? Any reliability issue or warranty problem? I've been using one for the past few months, no issues. Very consistent and forgiving. Paired mine with a Eureka Mignon grinder. Bought mine from a LYN forumer iamsobloodysick who runs a store in Kajang for significantly less (similar to the Lazada price) than what Harvey Norman etc were charging. The store is an authorized dealer, so warranty isn't an issue. This post has been edited by tishaban: Sep 14 2016, 03:07 PM

QUOTE(sapora @ Sep 14 2016, 10:48 PM) which store in kajang? do they have mignon grinder? You'll have to search on the garage sales forum, he posts espresso and other home appliances for sale. No they don't have the mignon grinder, it's a standard home appliance store, not an espresso/coffee specialty store.

QUOTE(BacktoBasics @ Sep 21 2016, 08:15 PM) I will take your recommendation Shipper blend is a brand? Do they offer free delivery? They state the roasted date on the packaging? Yes they state the roasted date on the packaging. The rest you'll have to find out on your own I personally don't like shipper blend, but then again my taste tends toward light/medium type roasts. QUOTE(BacktoBasics @ Sep 21 2016, 09:00 PM) Any recommendations from you?? Based on Starbucks beans I tend to go for medium roast. My favorite Starbuck beans is the blonde roast so I think you'll see where I'm heading Poke around beanshipper, I like the stuff from Beam and sprezzatura particularly the Ethiopian single origin ones. The specific availability changes seasonally. I've also tried mistercoffee (fresh, ships quickly, but too dark for my taste), le bistro (fresh, nice blends, inconsistent shipping) and antipodean (very fresh but I got bored of Sumatran beans). Will have to try ymeng85's blend next round

QUOTE(Shzngi @ Sep 27 2016, 01:59 PM) Discovered this thread so late. had lot of fun reading through all your post of coffee related stuff. I love coffee. specially coffee with a more chocolaty aroma mix in with half and half. Welcome! Your setup looks awesome! With some help from @lowkl I've experimented with home roasting as well, but have not been very successful so I've switched back to beanshipper/mistercoffee/lebistro

QUOTE(Castreal @ Oct 1 2016, 11:17 PM) I'm used to buying magnolia fresh milk twin pack at RM 15. You mean there are cheaper options? Where do buy yours? Mine is from village grocer because they are always out of stock at Aeon. Have you tried the Batista milk? Are these "Fresh" fresh milk? I recall seeing this in Singapore, also from Magnolia, haven't tried them though. Let us know how it fares against the regular Magnolia fresh milk, cheers! Post your milk review My personal favorite is Farm Fresh Dairy, the milk is fresh & local (meaning less time in transit) and the company is very responsive to customer feedback. Good Day milk is also pretty good. The rest are far too sweet for my liking, feels like I'm drinking latte with sugar when I add it to my espresso.

QUOTE(d33pbluez @ Oct 13 2016, 08:34 AM) I just brought my mignon if i knew a super jolly is about the price i would get it instead of mignon but for now, im quiet happy with mignon beside that it giving me a quick static shocks if i hold/touch the portafilter . Mignon is one hack of a messy grinder. It spew coffee ground all over the kitchen top when it grind unless you make a funnel for it which im having now by cutting the bottom of the cup. I like my mignon, so far it's not messy, maybe a clump falling off at most. Not sure how you're doing it that it gets very messy. I typically grind for espresso, about 18-19g using the timer function.

QUOTE(d33pbluez @ Oct 13 2016, 10:41 AM) it used to be messy even with timer because i just lock on to the spout latch and let it rip but i manage it by using homemade DIY funnel to reduce the ground from spewing everywhere when grind. It is just a small matter to keep in mind not major ones ... How about static ? I notice mignon produce quiet some static, i never fail to get one if i accidentally touch between the portafilter metal and the body of mignon when grinding process.... By the way, mind share the pic of you timer setting ? i just want to clarify something Sure, let me take a pic when I get back. Will probably take a video as well, maybe my definition of messy is not the same as yours hahahah

QUOTE(lowkl @ Oct 21 2016, 08:59 AM) But putting all the above peculiarities aside, I must say it has amazing consistency compared to what I was used to. Just pulled 3 shots all exactly 25 sec! Like a precision watch..... This I cannot get, my first shot is almost always shorter (~25 seconds) but every shot after that is consistent (~28 seconds). I do like the grinder overall, but I too wish that I don't have to load too much into the hopper.

QUOTE(lowkl @ Oct 21 2016, 03:46 PM) Let me try it out a few days in a row to see if I also have the same pattern as you. Possibly yes because first shot of the day may have higher retention due to static; after which the amount would stabilise. That's very likely the reason, I'm sure there are some leftover beans in the grinder or chute, 12-hour old beans exposed to the air that's causing my first shot to always be a bit less optimal compared to the next shots. Not a huge deal for me in the bigger scheme of things since I drown my espresso with milk anyway

QUOTE(Castreal @ Dec 22 2016, 08:20 PM) My Breville notifies me when it requires a "Cleaning Cycle", usually after around 200 shots. So I usually only backflush it every 4-5 months (1-2 cups a day) Should I be backflushing it more often? The Breville dual boiler for example has the option for a water only backflush which you should do every day. I do the full cleaning cycle whenever it asks for, which is roughly every month or so for me.

QUOTE(legonggelong @ Mar 23 2017, 09:55 AM) Guys, need opinions. Since I dont really want to grind beans at d office, which one is better? 1. Grind & brew (Aeropress) at home around 6.30am, put it in thermos & drink it at d office around 9am. or 2. Grind beans at home around 6.30am & brew at d office (French press) just as i want to drink it around 9am. Neither are ideal but I personally would prefer to not grind earlier so would go for option 1

QUOTE(PortgasDerekAce @ Mar 27 2017, 04:15 AM) Currently I'm trying to shop at stores like Cold Storage and TESCO, looking for coffee packs or bottled coffee powders and there are too many choices and I am lazy to read the package of each one of them. I want something taste like the Nespresso, the most intense, bitter, or spicy taste. I love the small size, super intense coffee, without adding sugar or anything else. Appreciate a lot of your help to suggest some good espresso. Cheers. You like Nespresso, too lazy to figure out anything else. Solution: buy Nespresso?
