dont know which items you are referring but i do find that some items are cheaper compared previous price. i.e. hartman lot 7 were rm150 previously, now listed as rm96 only.

Dear guys, I'll need your help here.

Currently I'm trying to shop at stores like Cold Storage and TESCO, looking for coffee packs or bottled coffee powders and there are too many choices and I am lazy to read the package of each one of them.

I want something taste like the Nespresso, the most intense, bitter, or spicy taste. I love the small size, super intense coffee, without adding sugar or anything else.

Appreciate a lot of your help to suggest some good espresso. Cheers.
*
What is your current brew method?

Espresso can only be brewed using espresso machine. If you already have a machine, best espresso are brewed with fresh roasted bean.

These bean at cold storage and tesco are not fresh. However, some ppl here do recommend lavazza bean.

P/s: I myself have yet to try the lavazza. I prefer to get freshly roasted.

Thanks for the love for local roasters  cry.gif

Yes, the AP is because Malaysia also produces our own coffee (if you don't know!)
The famous one that I know is My Liberica in Johor is a coffee farm producing Liberica species coffee
*
Malaysia used to produce our own coffee Liberia and robusta. When I was small, I get to eat fresh coffee fruits which were picked from the tree. These tree are grown around the kampung. Pasar tani used to sell fresh roasted coffee. You can smell these coffee miles away.

These are the reason AP was introduce. To protect local coffee farmers.

Currently, as @ymeng85 said, we have Liberica producers in Johor and Arabica in tenom. These two are well know coffee beans producers.

Over the years, production of local coffee beans has greatly reduced. However, the AP requirement remained.

It got nothing to do with bumi or halal.

The AP can be applied. Anyone can apply

Question : How to import round cabbages and raw coffee beans?
Answer  : Importation of round cabbage and raw coffee beans requires import permits from FAMA. The import permit will only be issued to quota holders through the e-permit system. Quota application to import round cabbages and raw coffee beans must be submitted to FAMA using the special forms purchasable at FAMA offices.

My 53mm basket accepts 16gm and my target output is 23gm to 26gm. Unfortunately I cannot fit a scale into my cheapo espresso machine, so I have to do it volumetrically with crema...about the 40ml mark.

My cup is 260ml, which I don't fully top out with foamed milk. Milk about 150ml (I know lah.....it's how I like it lah) then foamed.

I know the "proper" way to appreciate coffee is black, and not even long black via espresso  but by pour over or Syphon. I use Aeropress at the office, which yields something closer to pour over.

Let me roast a batch of Kenyan this long weekend and send them over once the post office opens on Wednesday. They are my most problematic as I had very very high expectations but so far just ok only.
*
you dont normally do 'cupping' after roasting?

Regretfully, don't know how.

...I hang my head in shame ....
*
lol. nothing to feel ashamed of. we are all here to learn.

all u need is a grinder, cup, spoon and off boil water. try search youtube for coffee cupping process. its not as complicated as one think. you just need to find the flavours and aromas that you like. cupping normally done once after roasting and after resting the bean.

smell the bean before and after grind. smell it again after pouring hot water.

slurp the spoon when the coffee is hot and when in cool down.

it open a whole new world. biggrin.gif

try it.

Thanks for the pointers; I always think to get into this process it is better to have a dependable reference; otherwise how do I know if what I'm tasting is "correct"?

On this note, can the community share a good "training ground" for cupping?
*
IMHO there is no 'correct' or not in enjoying coffee. One man meat is another man poison. biggrin.gif

if you're in Klang Valley, Pulp in Bangsar have regular cupping session. Last time I went, they charge RM50/- which they later convert to voucher for purchase of their beans. So its basically free.

Try contact them.

Hello, am a newbie to coffee and need sifu here to advise me on following:

am currently owning a Delonghi ECP33.21 espresso machine (which I think is a cheapest to me). This machine did not come with a grinder....and am currently looking into a coffee grinder at affordable price (~ RM300)..

Please advise, what would be the best affordable grinder should I get for my Delonghi machine?

Perhaps, am currently looking at Delonghi KG89. But somehow I did come across some review said that this grinder is not so suitable/good for make ground coffee for espresso machine??
*
Try hand grinder. Hario slim and skerton will be within your budget. Porlex will be slightly above your budget.

Hey coffee lovers... I have been reading a lot but have little experience on espresso making.

I understand that, in order to get a good espresso grinder, need to get at least a grinder that cost RM1,500 and above. Hand grinders are good for drip or pour over ... but would not be fine enough for espresso.

Anyone have suggestion on electric grinder that's around RM500 more or less? I recon that if there is a need to buy RM1,500 ++ grinder, might as well get Breville Barista Express machine?

wellhome zd line grinder is value for money.

ZD-10T would be sufficient?
*
its highly depending on your requirement. what you intend to do with the grinder? hand brew? espresso only? cold brew?

secondly, how much you willing to spend?

personally, i don't have any experience with ZD-10T but i have tried the zd-16 during CAFFA 2015. The grind is fine enough for espresso which for me its all that matter. cool2.gif

but, don't take my word as i'm no coffee snob. my latter art skill sucks. my palate is rubbish.

been using barista express for my daily caffeine dose for the past 3 years. all i want is CHEAPER cup daily. i've change from buying gourmet coffee to buying in kilos from local commercial roaster. heck, i even went to the extent substituting my fresh milk to the UHT milk.

economy is bad biggrin.gif

if you have high expectation for coffee, then you have to invest a lot of money on the apparatus and bean biggrin.gif

I will definitely try this one
I would love to get fresh milk but our situation is pretty hard. Even for UHT milk, we need to buy 15 box (10 cartons each) per every trip at the moment. The Tesco over there only sells Dutch Lady Pasteurised Milk. Anw, thank you for suggestion. Hopefully we dont have to close down after 6 months biggrin.gif

Try to find fresh milk from local cow owner. Pasteur is yourself.

Brewed using my el-cheapo machine, with milk. Earthy, choco with slight fruity taste.
