Yeah, they close their shop in penang and left only the academy....if not mistaken i think their academy also close down already.... just only see sign board each time when i pass by....
Yup, i'm talking about COD only also..... maybe penang is one sea apart from peninsular...that why expensive abit...hahaha
Good luck on your biz .... thumbsup.gif
Another credit to you, try your bean last night (Haven't tried since i brought because i develop flu and cough only got better recently) and it choke my machine badly, and you beans had force me to step down the grind setting. That is the sign your coffee is really fresh out of the oven..... Previously i tried beans from other location cafe with same grind setting (finest setting in my machine). It didn't choke at all mean that beans are not that fresh already....

Mostly imported. Some from UK, some from SG, some from ebay

Which shop in Perak Road? And how's the quality? Present or past crops?
*
Well if you know perak road market? there's a 3 story building that sells furniture. They do sell spices, coffee beans and tea, and others. Basically import/export stuff. I've forgot their name but from what i understand they supply to many roasters.

the crops, depends as i always ask for the latest arrival.. rolleyes.gif Latest beans i got from them is Bali Kintamani and sumatra mandheling gayo

A puck a day... have to speak to the Management on that, later they say I littering  bangwall.gif  Not sure the Nepalese gardeners know how to use the puck, later he just chuck it in the bin.
How do you put it on the soil? just taruh the whole puck there? break the puck into grinds? Is 1 puck enough? or have to gather a few? Compost? I notice the pucks start getting moldy after a few days.
*
I think you better understand what type of plant and soil ph. Generally, i would break them up to be used directly or compost.

There is you answer..... You had to break up the puck then apply at the plant  if it were in puck form it would do very little used for the plant unless you plan to use it as decoration instead of fertilizer.....
*
Another way of using your puck is to ......... .......... .......... remove foul smell like toilet? At office, i put the used grounds in a small tray... inside the toilet in my office. Really helps ALOT puke.gif --> nod.gif

I tend to use aeropress, french press and drip coffee.

I use to purchase starbucks beans but I am trying to find something similar at a cheapper in terms of price.
*
Hmm.... well if you can accept sbuck beans, i don't think you have problem with many carried in the supermarket. SAM or Cold storage or Giant. They have those 1KG bags beans which cost RM110+. Tesco finest or BON cafe.

Maybe you need to try out fresh roast beans vs supermarket type.

For long run, home roast will be cheaper and cheaper"ER" if you get cheap grade beans but taste sweat.gif

Its all about personal preference anyway... Happy Coffee...

Bye, for areopress, did u get the metal filter?

I tried BON cafe but didn't like it. I didn't get the metal filter.I am using paper filter. I feel if I use metal filter it will be the same as the French press
*
As for my taste buds, metal mesh/filter did gives better crema compare to staking multiple paper filter. Also correct selection of fresh beans... thumbsup.gif

the output/results from french press coffee is not the same as areopress. Just my 2 cents.

what your cold brew recipe?

as for me, I'm using 100 gram of espresso blend bean, grind to the size for french press with 800 gram of water. Steeping time of 24 hours.

Result, deep dark full bodied taste minus the bitterness and chocolatey aftertaste. Good either with ice or with milk and ice.
*
I don't use fresh beans for cold brew... about a month old beans only i'll used it for such brew and use dark roast beans. tongue.gif

Hi i do not use any high tech roaster to roast my coffee. In any hobby/interest i always start with the basics.
I started roasting using pan/saucepan with a lid method over the gas top. it was quite good after using a heavy cast iron with a glass covered top i could get the bean roasted around 15-16 mins second crack. i drank pan roasted coffee for 1 year now. I'm also not a coffee snob and just enjoy the freshness of the roast and notice that flavours develop each passing day. I know what people say that coffee is just right for espresso after 3-4 days but i don't see it. i drink it an hour after its roasted and its lovely. Each batch lasts me a week never longer as i find week old coffee not pleasant.

then i tried moving into a diy drum roaster (LOL) which i made out of a stainless steel bottle and some hardware parts with a hand drill.
user posted image
it worked but the roasting time was far too long. as the canister was very low in mass and could not retain heat so the total roasting time too 20 mins pass and it wasn't pleasant to drink kinda like baked coffee beans. Might work if you had higher heat source. say turbo stove or maybe heat gun.

the current project I'm trying to use a fat free fryer. basically it looks like this
user posted image
Decent roast it tumbles to keep the bean moving. but the roast is still quite uneven. still need to move the beans more.  adding vanes to move it more and removing the thermostat is my next project hack. Temperature cuts off at 210 C.  but this is all automated so my arms are not tired. pan roasting very tiring on the arms as i have to keep moving it for 15 mins. /of course can buy a real coffee roaster but where the fun in that. Plus I'm a cheapskate!!

as for the beans i buy them local. i don't order in from overseas its more expensive to buy them local but at least i get to inspect the beans before i buy them. in KL i buy them from bon cafe sri hartamas. if you need the number and address let me know. they have most basic selections there. Brazilian, sumatra, indian monsoon . if I'm up north i buy them from a coffee distributor in penang. Christopher Coffee Food & Beverage Service & Distribution Penang (you can try search online) they have more exotic beans like blue mountain /luwak.

happy roasting and drinking coffee.

Peoploids,

It's budget grinder discussion time again!

My Feima 600N just died on me last night, so it's a great excuse to upgrade to something better. However, I'm saving my moolah for a proper drum roaster towards the end of this year, so I'm allocating only RM 1500 or less for the grinder. Also, I prefer new, mainly because I hate chasing for a good secondhand unit only to find out it's been sold already.

So, any suggestions (and pointers on where to get them)?

My current interest lies with a Gaggia MDF at RM 1289 from Lazada.

Thanks in advance!

Seriously how did the Feima 600N died?

Hi Liquor;

If you have a French press, it will function exactly as the "manual" milk frother.

I find the French press/ plunger type better (easier & more stable froth) than the battery operated wand type. However it seems to require milk for 2 cups or more. I guess if you are only preparing for one cup it is only practical to use the wand type.

These days I must say I never have the time to steam or froth...it's nuke for 1 minute, pour into the coffee and off to work!
*
As for me, i like to shake the milk in a bottle (any ml) and straight in Microwave oven. 30 sec. and pour. Thats what i do in office.... + Areopress coffee

Yup, going to make only a cup at a time. Alright. I guess i have an answer at the moment. Thanks!
I've tried warming the milk and tried to shake it. Cant get much much dense froth.
*
blink.gif actually what kind of dense froth you are looking at? I think it's personal choice, as to me the frothier from french press look alike it too dense for me but okay for cappuccino look alike. laugh.gif

Btw, its shake only warm, so you can use the plunger( french press lookalike ) only microwave
just my 2 cents

Anyone know where can I get cheapest aeropress?

Saw one at shopee selling for rm70+ though....comment stated China product...anyone try China fake aeropress?
*
Yes, i've tested ori and fake. Basically the plastic quality says it all. Secondly when press, there's some spill at the filter cap and lastly, the paper filter don't fit nicely as ori.

I've even tested the mashed metal filter and same results, some spill.

Basically, ori is the way to go.. Btw, we do not know what kind of plastic is used in the fake.
