I just own a cheap http://www.espressozone.com/grindenstein-knock-box
Mixing the grounds into the soil as compose
*
Initially that was what I was looking to get, the bucket type, but knowing my wife, she doesn't want it "open" style, and the toddlers might just play with the bucket or pucks, so went with the drawer type. Having that said, I must've only used the knockbox less than 5 times since I bought it over a year ago. --> I'm selling the drawer knockbox though, if anyone is interested whistling.gif

Best is still go straight in the bin biggrin.gif

As for the grounds, I'm not quite the green thumb type (rather the leave them on the shop shelf, they will last much longer than at my home type) and we're living in a condo with limited space, so I mainly just throw them in a bin.

perhaps you can do some good committee for you condo by contributing some puck to your condo gardener or landscaper (I believe you condo had some plants or landscaping need fertilizer) .... save the condo budget and go green at the same time....  biggrin.gif
*
A puck a day... have to speak to the Management on that, later they say I littering bangwall.gif Not sure the Nepalese gardeners know how to use the puck, later he just chuck it in the bin.
How do you put it on the soil? just taruh the whole puck there? break the puck into grinds? Is 1 puck enough? or have to gather a few? Compost? I notice the pucks start getting moldy after a few days.

I tend to use aeropress, french press and drip coffee.

I use to purchase starbucks beans but I am trying to find something similar at a cheapper in terms of price.
*
I too started with Starbucks beans. I guess we tend to start off with things that we are familiar with.
But like what others pointed out, do try Freshly roasted beans (roasted within the week) as compared to off the shelf beans with Expiry date.
An advise given to me back then when i purchase beans was --> look for beans packed with "Roasted on" dates, rather than "Expire by" dates, the difference in the quality of beans/espresso pretty much speaks for itself.

Personally I get my beans from Beanshipper, their cheaper but good beans - Shipper blend goes for RM39 (500gm). Else you can check out the cheaper Malaysia Liberica beans (haven't tried them before though).

Shipper blend is their blend which they work with local roasters to come out with it. I'm currently brewing that. don't worry on their packaging & service as they are coffee lovers and know what they are doing!! they do offer free delivery but only above RM100. i usually buy once a month

Yes only buy beans with roasted date on them!! not expiry which you can find in supermarkets.

Btw its not RM39 for 500g but 250g. @castreal

*
Sorry, my bad! Yes, it's 250g.

Am brewing CREAM + Purveyor, 250g each makes up a nice RM 101 for the free shipping tongue.gif
Used to brew Shipper Blend, but find myself enjoying Purveyor more at the same price.

As for Cream by THE ROAST THINGS, they usually have them only in small batches, and I have to contact the Bean Shipper guys for a reservation.

Overall, agree their beans are a bit pricey, but they do have a wider range of beans to choose from.

Cheers!

tried the milk killer before. not as nice as i expect. purveyor better
*
Agree with this! I think I posted a few pages ago, Milk Killer is not as nice, the Espresso taste doesn't punch through as much as Purveyor or Shipper Blend.
Haven't tried it on its own without milk though, as it's meant to be brewed with milk.

Bought this from supplier rm 7.1
More expensive than yellow package magnolia fresh milk
*
I'm used to buying magnolia fresh milk twin pack at RM 15. You mean there are cheaper options? Where do buy yours? Mine is from village grocer because they are always out of stock at Aeon.
Have you tried the Batista milk? Are these "Fresh" fresh milk?
I recall seeing this in Singapore, also from Magnolia, haven't tried them though. Let us know how it fares against the regular Magnolia fresh milk, cheers!

Post your milk review  biggrin.gif  My personal favorite is Farm Fresh Dairy, the milk is fresh & local (meaning less time in transit) and the company is very responsive to customer feedback. Good Day milk is also pretty good. The rest are far too sweet for my liking, feels like I'm drinking latte with sugar when I add it to my espresso.
*
We used to drink Farm Fresh, but occasionally found them to contain "yogurt" as what Farm Fresh declares.
We've exchanged it a few times, but later on find it a hassle to have to go back to the mall to exchange.
Since I'm fine with the Magnolia Fresh Milk a lot of Cafe's are using these days, so I stick with that. Never had any sour experience so far.

definitely taste more fresh than same brand in groceries store for magnolia fresh milk or farmhouse, coz i take it from F&N supplier, less cold chain breaking in transport & fluctuating shelf temperature.

F&N Barista milk i think not yet found in groceries store

Can help order 1-2 carton to try? brows.gif

After having 500g of purvegory and still have 500g to go, i must say it is a good coffee and it does really taste the chocolate taste and after taste of cinnamon but the coffee is just only suitable for hot drink ..... and the taste got water down....
*
You mean Purveyor by Bean Shipper?
Tasting Notes: Milk Chocolate. Caramel. Cinnamon.

taste really good right? Just got my 500g refill yesterday. Ordered some Guatemala Finca Guatalon La Loma Espresso from Brew & Bread as well to try - recommended by the Bean Shipper guys.

*
Haven't tried Purveyor with ice as i prefer my coffee hot laugh.gif
I've tried Rubix in the past, find it lacking some kick, perhaps that's what they mean by achieving Harmony with milk, so the milk kinda blends in to the espresso, reducing the "kick". Perhaps after you've tried it let me know your feedback.

Count me in. What brand are u ordering
*
Actually just today and tomorrow, the shipper express beans get an 11% discount.
usually if I buy 250g Purveyor its at RM 39, or 156/kg. With the 11% promotion + buying 1 kg, we can get it at RM114.80 per KG.
Divide that up 4 purchasers (250g each), its only RM 28.70 per 250g. Quite a good deal.. but only for today and tomorrow.

I'm interested in Purveyor and Burundi Nduweyezu Ngozi if anyone is interested biggrin.gif

... Magnolia Fresh Milk (Yellow Box), Jura's Fresh Milk(Blue Box), Fresh Farm Fresh Milk (Orange Cap) ...
*
I think you mean Pura... initially I preffered Pura, i believe it has more "fat" and the steamed milk are more foamy and tasty, but that was back when a twin pack cost RM 16. Shortly after that, most of the Pura milk went off the shelves, and stocks were really hard to come by... it was then that i switched to Magnolia Fresh Milk.
Pura milk then came back on the shelves with new packaging and a brand new RM18+ pack... glad I switched to Magnolia.

thanks guys for the recommends, i do spot alot of cafes using Magnolia (yellow box) milk, so it must be quite good, will keep an eye out later when i visit AEON. Dutch lady i love the full cream on its own and i dislike HL anyways, haha...
*
I usually get my Magnolias from Mydin Wholesale Hypermart at USJ, a pack of 2 goes for RM 13.80, cheapest I've seen so far.

Waliao u backflush with dishwashing liquid?   notworthy.gif
*
For backflush grouphead I used the tablets, they gave me like 6 tablets when i bought the machine.
I used dishwashing liquid on the portafilter, filter, grouphead brush, which initially I used to soak in Cafiza first (cos Sales guy said it will make it cleaner!).
It wasn't until I found out they were RM 110 a bottle (the first bottle was given free), then I started using the dish washing liquid...
Not sure if dishwashing liquid can disolve like the tablets though... wouldnt be using them for backflush

Depend how frequent you make coffee and how many cup been made plus not to forget what been you used ( Last time i used Liberica beans which super oil, whole grinder kind of mess up had to clean everything external and internally so does my machine too).... normal recommended 2 week once for casual drinker  biggrin.gif
*
My Breville notifies me when it requires a "Cleaning Cycle", usually after around 200 shots.
So I usually only backflush it every 4-5 months (1-2 cups a day) blush.gif
Should I be backflushing it more often?
